Thank Goodness We Never Left Kansas!
Wow! Hasn’t the last couple of days been unreal for driving?
It started Tuesday when a balmy 70 degrees quickly turned blustery, and the local media went bizerk about the chance for tornadoes. As I was out and about, I even bought into the hype, altering my late day travel. (I say even I, because as a former radio news anchor and reporter I know about the dramatazation of doing the weather so everyone panics!)
I will say that the high winds did make keeping my SUV upright a little more challenging, but all in all, the actual event didn’t measure up to the hype.
Next came yesterday, tornado free, but snow flurries and sleet to keep me amused (as well as you other road warriors). More high winds made driving a challenge but still relatively uneventful.
Today, being Thursday, I haven’t encountered as much wind but I have seen flurries. I thought I even spied a few reindeer on the way in this morning, but it was early!
For the gas update, prices have jumped slightly (You’d think it was almost Thanksgiving or something!) I’ve seen an average of $2.28 for a gallon of unleaded regular around Hamilton today, and if I was a betting woman, I’ll bet they go higher next week.
So with the wind, and snow, and tornado threat, a girl just has to count her blessings. I’m safe, I’m alive, I’m here, and next week I turn 44. (although NOT really a blessing there!) As I head toward the weekend, which means putting up Christmas lights in 40-degree weather, I really am glad to be in Hamilton, which is close enought to Kansas for me!
