Why do they do this?

It’s mid-day. Traffic is backed up in five directions. A paving crew has tied up Ohio 122, Ohio 123 and Ohio 741 where they meet at Red Lion in Clearcreek Twp. in the middle of Warren County. And the guy directing traffic is not happy with the drivers!

He waves us through, with a combination of frustration, anger and the late-summer heat on his face.

The question, though, is what is he upset about? The drivers trying get back after lunch or to the next meeting or run an errand should be — most are — fuming about how these highways have been shut down.

Why is the Ohio Department of Transportation allowed to close roads instead of putting paving crews to work during off hours?

And why is there no warning to drivers? Is it too much to expect that construction signs be erected to alert us before we become trapped by the paving crew? The signs could read: “Your tax dollars not at work!”
