Skyrocketing gas prices, once again

The effects of Hurricane Rita, are now being felt at local gas pumps. I’ve seen averages between $2.94 and $2.96 per gallon, for unleaded, around Butler County.

My contacts at the local stations tell me not to worry though. They don’t expect this latest spike to last for very long.

I’m now averaging between $35-$41 dollars to fill my Ford Escape. I did see an interesting report on the news this morning. It said that SUV sales are down with the Ford Explorer seeing the biggest hit in new sales. It said that Ford reports a 60 percent decline in Explorer sales last month. I guess the economy has begun feeling the pinch of the 2005 hurricane season. Hmmmmmm, I hear Lexus has come out with a new SUV hybrid model, yep I could see myself in that! (dream on Teri)

No big traffic problems to report today, although crews are still doing whatever it is they’re doing on Ohio 4 near Grand Blvd. in Hamilton. That is still down to one lane and will cause a slow up, but it is not obvious what they’re fixing.

All in all I’m moving right along today, and I must say I love this last burst of summer we’re getting. You can’t beat 87 degrees on Oct. 4. I hope it lasts.

As we deal with the cost of rising gasoline, I hear that winter heat bills are also going to be a bear this year. In Hamilton, where I live,it is expected to rise something like $35 a month.

You know, Arizona and retirement at age 43 is looking better all the time!
