Hiya! I know this is kinda off topic nevertheless I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest writing a blog post or vice-versa? My site covers a lot of the same topics as yours and I think we could greatly benefit from each other. If you happen to be interested feel free to send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you! Superb blog by the way!

Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any recommendations for newbie blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.

I was one of the lucky few who worked as a technician for both MARTA and Envirotest. The system that everyone faults as a waste of time work the way it was intended to. Don’t blame the equipment for all of the crooked people that worked at the stations. The number one problem was the employees. When we opened in 2005 I was a lane inspector making $5 an hour, that was really bad back then. The program and equipment for the most part worked the way it was designed. The human element was real issue

The last time echeck was here I bought a used 1985 car. I paid $800 for the car. I took it to echeck and it just missed passing by a very small margin. I took it to an echeck approved shop and paid about $4oo in repairs and they swore it would pass. It did not. Took it back to the shop, another $200. Still it came close but did not pass. took it to another (EPA) approved shop spent another $350 didn’t pass.I am on S.S. and have been walking since. DISBAND THE EPA!

What does this have to do with e-check? Geez! Give it a break. I thought it was just Sarah’s from Alaska that had their head up… well you get the idea.

Anyway, e-check is a big waste of time and money. We’ll do the same thing we did last time; spend millions setting up the infrastructure then abandon it all and waste the money that is so desperately needed elsewhere. There are much better ways invest the money and clean up the environment. How about building a few wind turbines to cut back on the amount of carbon fuels we use. Or, maybe we could invest in clean mass transit to cut back on the number of cars on the road. Isn’t it time look to the future instead of repeating the mistakes of the past?

Being a Mechanic for 31 years, E Check was a big JOKE, another way for the man to take $20 from our pockets. Plus the damage that E Check caused to many cars and trucks, cutting off tires, breaking manual tranmissions. We saw many cars broken at the Dealer where I worked. If you had a drivers license and could drive a manual shift they would hire you. This is a major RIP Off. Blame it on the cars to get more money. How many people know air planes still use LEADED fuel.

It’s time the Epa went away, far away. The(epa) has too much power. The E-check stations did far more harm than good. Any smog or poor test results were directly related to geographical conditions. This was a money making operation and as the result of poor leadership and faulty testing made Ohioan’s pay dearly, especially the people who couldn’t afford it. If it’s resurrected fees will be very high, since state funds are hard to come by. Pay attention people, this is the first step.

I think some in Monroe need an a*s check because they have their heads up their asses. They want to stop jobs from coming into area. The People of Monroe need to wake up and see that the coke plant is being build in Middletown. Urso can’t see this because he always have his head in the clouds. Make the e-check for the city of Monroe only after all they will be getting most of the dirt from the new coke plant that is now being built. Congrats Monroe the smoke couldn’t blow a better direction. Bring to Monroe e-check errrr dirt check..right towards the Urso and Isis door.

No, no, no..no more E-Check! Give us a choice about how we want to be robbed. Why not have a special lottery ticket earmarked for improving the environment and put the money in a “general fund”? You know, kind of like the “general fund” from the lottery that was supposed to support schools. At least that form of theft has voluntary participation. E-Check is a totally unacceptable way to remedy the deficit in the state budget!

Everyone is correct. This e check is a scam. When we had it before, the buses and semi’s were given immunity. Watch those vehicles idle and just look at the fumes. If it comes back then check every vehicle that has an engine including small and large as well as boats. If they check everything that moves then they could drop the price to 1.99 per vehicle

Fact: When the 8 local E-Checks closed on 12/31/06 the owner’s, Envirotest from Connecticut, paid the last payment on their 15 year bond issued to build the facilities. The State of Ohio agreed to pay Envirotest a minimum amount each year, in the event the facility did not generate the revenues to pay the bond. If the facility closed before 12/31/06 the state would pay the entire bond payment, not the car owners. The state and EPA lied to us. Now they want to do it again.

By smogger

The counties / state need to balance their budgets, so now they turn to E-check and the car drivers to do it.

“Gas prices are down so the motorists won’t mind” - government / politicians.

E-check did not serve the needs of the people. The hours of operation sucked. If you had something minor, like a loose gas cap, you had to go get one and go through testing another time.

The worst cars get a pass.

Socialism in action.

This E-Check program is nothing more than a government stealing from the same individuals that elected these idiots. Promises of helping the common people to get into office and once they get there all those promises seem to be forgotten due to polticians and their need for greed. This program is not about the air we breath it’s all about kicking the coomon people while they are down. Wake up Ohio before we allow these idiots to enforce something that is absilutely uneccessary.

The EPA is worried enough about air quality in Butler and Warren county to bring back the e-check and they allow AK to build a coke plant. Looks like the fix is in.

By L J B

February 8, 2009 8:59 AM | Link to this

E Check gave passes on cars that needed more than $200 worth of repairs for compliance. Obviously there was no real intent to clean up the air. If the Government was really interested in cleaning up the air, they would get the oldest / dirtiest vehicles off the road. There is no political resolve to do this.

Why wouldn’t the Gov’t do this? They want more money regardless of whether anything makes sense. Would they ever think about only testing cars over 15 years old? No, they want the money associated with all the cars, including the new ones, which are engineered to be more “green”. E-check is another sign we are becoming a socialist nation. Just as Obama signed the Shirp bill for all children to have health care including aliens. Oh yea, children are defined as 30 years old or less. Go Dems!!

By Dennis

e-check did no good in L.A. and it did no good here in Ohio.No matter what we may be told; it’s just another tax and another avenue for someone to make millions of dollars.

By RET

Continue: I would have liked to have seen their cars pass the test. Their lot looked like Cohen’s scrap yard. I worry about the air, but they need to revamp this program before they decide to start it. When Cincy had this along time ago, they did it right, the people were nice, you got a sticker. Why not get people to clean up their yards, their streets, maybe that will help clean up the air.Lets clean up Middletown first. Parents, have your kids pull their pants up, that will help.

By RET

February 8, 2009 8:36 AM | Link to this

Continue: or stop the cars with no exhaust, or a coat hanger holding them up, or the best ones, they are dragging on the road. Then regulate what the cost is on fixing this problem, so they can afford to get it fixed. I think the responsibility on selling used cars, having them in compliance, should fall on the dealorships. If you do decide to start this back up, then pay wages where you get experienced people, with professional attitudes. I looked at the empolyees cars and they were junk.

E-Check was awful. They messed up the computer in 1 year old car, but said they didn’t do it, however it was fine when I went in there, nor was my check engine light on. They had these young, untrained people running it, who were very rude. I ended up listing the car to a relative in another location to avoid it. I agree with some of the others, this is just a way to get money. Why don’t you E-check AK Steel? I am not taking my new car in there again.

Shove the E-Check were the sun doesn’t shine Ohio. The thousands of trucks on I-75 and the factories that turn their electric scrubbers off at night contribute to the pollution. Fine them to get your money and leave us alone. Now, if E-Check must reopen, at least hire the same people that ran the scheme of taking your money, pocketing it and seeing that your car passes. That way I won’t have to bring my cars back if they fail. The whole operation is a gouging of the citizens for more revenue.

By Freedom Writer

When a person drives into one of those E-Check stations and asks the attendant what would they have to do to get thru this and the person says ( Give us $19.50), what does that tell you? It was a scam. A scam from the beginning. Remember when it stopped around here, they increased the fuel price by 3 or 4 cents to cover the situation. State must need an easy way of bringing in some more money again. And as far as trucks go, thats why they sell ultra low Diesel now. I know i drive professionally.

E-check was a sham put on us by a Connecticut contractor. Cars that are polluting above an acceptable level are probably doing so because they are in bad repair. A car in bad repair will take itself off the road, we don’t need to intervene.

Have you noticed trucks and busses aren’t spewing black smoke like they used to? You’ll still see it on occassion, but it’s rare.

With the Democrats in charge, you’re going to get lots of unnecessary stuff you don’t want, or need. They are going to say, “e-check is creating jobs”, and you are going to be stuck with it, like it or not!

By Norm Peterson

February 8, 2009 7:19 AM | Link to this

One semi-truck or bus probably polutes as much as 50 cars. These trucks and busses are just passing through. Are they going to be tested? (rhetorical - answer is NO)

No doubt emmissions from factories are contributing to the problem. Why aren’t efforts focused on the poluters? Why is the focus on just the locals?

E-check is just another tax targeted at car owners.

When are they going to figure out its not the cars in the area causing the low air quality? I thought the got rid of it in the first place because the majority of cars going through were meeting standards. They need to test the smoke coming out of the factories in this area before they try what they already tried and failed at. I know my car will pass with no problems, but I need that money for other things right now.
