This is just to comment on the business closings in this quadrant ie., Waffle House, BP and Score. Two weeks ago, I heard ODOT is exercising eminent domain on the corner of 122 and southbound I75 for the I75 construction project. This is in no way a defense of city council as I agree they are as idiotic and short sighted as they come. It’s just possible the construction project is why bp and Waffle House will no longer be there and not shortsighted council rulings.

I work at a car dealership here IN Middletown. People are complaining about their home values going down, that Middletown is a dying city, and crying the blues about life in Middletown. Then they go to Cincinnati or Dayton to buy a car! KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN YOUR TOWN PEOPLE! If the businesses in this town can stay afloat, you will be MUCH better off! Good luck SCORE guys! SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES!!!!

You people are pathetic! Bob is a good honest man and supported your community. I’m sure there wasn’t a day gone by where someone in the community was begging on his doorstep for donations and the majority of time he gave. He doesn’t deserve the bashing that you folks are giving him. If you don’t know him personally, you should keep your comments to yourself. Get a life!!

My Toyota was made in the USA with 100% USA parts including the body (some stamped right here in Fairfield Ohio). My 1997 Ford Explorer was assembled in Louisville, KY in which a lot of the electrical components are from China, The V-8 5.0 motor & transmission were made in Brazil. My brother-in-law worked for Ford at the Atlanta assembly plant until Ford decided to close it and build the Taurus & Sable in Canada. He now owns a Honda & Toyota.

Oh, how this amuses me. To the guy whose Canadian built Ford was a “Jap” car. It had to be a Crown VIC, Grand Marq, Windstar, or a new MKX, EDGE or Flex. I know these cars almost as well as the back of my hand, and off the top of my head cannot think of one part used on ANY of these vehicles that was produced in Japan. If you happen to see a label that says “made in Japan” on ANY Ford product, please let us know. Here’s the problem, uninformed “American” buyers supporting the wrong side.

What is it about comments that seems to bring out the mean streak in people, and what do they add to the public discourse? I’m left with the feeling that people say negative, cruel things behind their anonymous names that they would never say face to face. Would you say these things to the employees and ownership of this failed dealership if they were sitting across from you at your kitchen table?

Journal-News, what’s the value of this?

How many of the parts used in “American” autos come from “America?” Over one half! How many plants make the same parts for both the “Jap” & “American auto.” 99 percent! What do the American auto workers do with their “Jap” paycheck? They spend every dime in the US! Why do you think every bolt and nut is metric on YOUR American auto, because it’s a “Jap” part! Wake up! Your US car is as much “Jap” as your TV!

My Ford was made in Canada with most of it’s parts comming from Japan. My Toyota was made in the US. Which do you call American? Much more of the “American” cars are using “Jap” parts than one would even think. Americans get the money from the auto sales, taxes, and service. Does it really make any difference where the auto originated? Kind of like giving away free razors or computer printers, now you have to buy razor blades and ink cartridges forever. Except they don’t give away autos.

Buy american is a bunch of garbage. Where did your TV and your DVD player come fro Hint, not from here. If unions hadn’t gotten so greedy and said, “give me 100k a year to turn a screwdriver”, we wouldn’t be in this spot. We hunkered down, and assumed the good times would keep on rolling. We didn’t adjust business practices, unions just kept holding their hands out. Most of the union idiots I’ve met are worthless. They would starve to death in any other country. gimme, gimme, I’ll be sleeping.

This is a sad day to hear that Score closed its doors. My relationship with chrysler started there some 11 years ago. My family over the past 12 years have owned 11 or 12 Chrysler vehicles. I myself just purchased my 4th in August 07. It bothers me that people buy foreign cars when their American companies are in trouble. Slowing auto sales means steel worker cuts, plants closing, manufacturing jobs lost. Wake up people!!! MOPAR or NO CAR!!!

The poster that said that he thinks guys like bob smith put their butts on the line for this country; is whats really wrong. Do you honestly think he was doing his patriotic duty selling cars? Esp cars that are in some sense way over priced? Get real and wake up. There are plenty of other people that put “thier butts on the line” for this country. Ex. Soliders, teachers, doctors, nurses and etc.Whats happening to the auto industry is karma. Bad buisness practices should net you a bailout.

I decided to buy an American made Toyota. Yes, I supported American jobs by buying an American made Toyota from Georgetown Kentucky. Toyota & Honda are the only vehicles MADE in the USA. The 3 major so called American brands ship their parts in from overseas manufacturer’s and assemble the final product here in the USA.

The closing of this 18 year old Middletown dealership is only the beginning. And it is the fault of every American citizen in southwestern Ohio who has made the choice to buy a foreign brand vehicle. As Earl Pitts would say,”Wake Up America!” Does no one realize that every new American brand vehicle that is sold here supports the millions of American households AND the total American infrastructure like roads, bridges, powerplants, schools, etc?! And foreign brands sold do not.

Sorry Scored closed. I live in Oakland, Ca who happen to have an interest in Ohio. I spendt several months there in the 1980’s. What’s happening in Middleton is happening in many parts of America and the world. Unfortunately, our economy is a debt economy. And, unfortunately, many of the comments seem to think it’s city government and the dealership’s fault they are closing. They are misguided and, probably watching a lot of television instead of reading. BTW: This in not Bush’s fault - it start with issuing credit cards by gasoline companies in the 1950’s. We’ve been going the debtor’s hill since.

It’s interesting to me reading these posts… I’m amazed at how many people get a kick out of other people losing their livelihood. Score was an incredible dealer. Anyone remember the crooks that owned the Chrysler dealer before Bob did??? If memory serves me correctly, the previous owner spent time in prison. Any negative feedback people give dealers is mostly because they couldn’t screw the dealer out of something for nothing, not the other way around. Most of the people that have negative feelings are too ignorant to realize that vehicles break, and it’s not the dealer’s responsibility to fix your problem at their expense. But to keep a good name, the dealer pays for the repair themselves, and when you do that enough, ultimately the end is going to come.

What impact? Yes, the car dealer occupying the former putt-putt is going to cause a huge rift in the economy. Oh no, what is to become of us? They must have employed at least 10 people! It’s not funny that people lost their jobs, but come on. The place was a toilet, just like the rest of middletown. Is this even news worthy? Just go get your over-priced, under-optimized car somewhere else. The guy ripped people off for 18 years, now it’s come full circle.

Businesses are leaving Middletown because no one in town has any money to spend. The population is functionally illiterate and your former pot smoking BBQ pedaling mayor showed no leadership and the idiots on council are incompetant boobs. 30 years of City Center Malls, Lake Middletowns, downtown renewals and on and on have destroyed a once thriving city. If you can’t educate your youth and can’t keep them at home your City is then run by dim wits and hacks and abracadabra your city folds.

I am the guy pimpin wrote about, Score is out of business mostly do to it’s own management and sales team. Middletown is in trouble because for the last 25 years voters have elected morons to run the city. People who know nothing about how to attract white collar jobs and high tech industries. Blame City council if you want but the citizens elected them. A poor school system has lead to a population of semi-retarded hillbillys. The majority of smart and college educated people leave Middletown.

Maybe, just maybe in the end we will look at ourselves as the real problem and not everyone else. Could we have stopped what is going on today, yes. We could have paid better attention to the people we put in positions of service instead of voting party etc. and when they fail us vote them out. We could have realized when the unions and managements were unfair and voiced our concerns instead of taking the party line. Lets think about it going forward; it is WE THE PEOPLE not party.

my friend was out looking for a new nice car a few years ago and we went to score to look into getting a crossfire etc. We walked in and after 15 minutes of standing with the sales staff ignoring us we went to acura and was greeted right away and treated like valuable consumers so he purchased an acura TL. ( great ride). We looked at all American brands first but it was the attitudes of the dealerships that led him to find out how nice a TL is and he will never go back to anything else

As Rome burns, the Middletown City Council fiddles away.Apparently, losing Chick-Fil-A,Waffle House,BP(a while back),Dillard’s,Fazoli’s and many others recently, doesn’t matter to the folks running the city.Must not care about business or jobs, just sign ordinances,Section8,their own business interests and slapping paint on dilapidated houses in the city to “spiffy them up”.The city is falling apart and they don’t have a clue that it has gone down hill at all.(or don’t care)Clean house next election

It’s too bad to see good people like those at Score to shut the doors. I worked with this dealership as a Chrysler Rep (just retired) for many years and found them to be honest and caring. Unfortunately, the economic conditions, credit crisis and uncertainly in the auto industry will result in more doors closing. It’s guys like Bob Smith who put the butts on the line everyday that make this country great. I only wish Bob and the rest of the crew good luck in this uncertain time.

The City council worries about section 8 housing more than they care about anything else. Well the money is running out for that too.

What will the council do when they wont have section 8 housing to take up all the city budget?

Here is something to research. I learned the hard way when Stenger Ford in dayton closed…… If you have traded a vehicle in, that money was still owed on in the last 90 days, 99% likely the dealerships close without having paid off your previous lender. This will leave you holding two auto loans and one vehicle and most importantly, no recourse. I know, i paid on two loans to Ford Motor Credt for 2 years, while in possession of one vehicle. I just hope no one did this at Score.

I’m sure SCORE (C) DODGE (J) was among the rest of the dealers throughout the good ol’ USA to tack another $10,000 to $25,000 to the $41,985 MSRP for the 2008 DODGE CHALLENGER SRT. Some dealers are still adding an additional $1K to $2K to the 2009 CHALLENGER window stickers while most are demanding MSRP. One would think the distraught automotive industry would be willing to sell its vehicles to AMERICANS at a reasonable price! 99.9% of all GM dealers are charging MSRP for the CAMARO. OH WELL!
