can anyone at the journal find a copy of the aeif bylaws? 2 trustees have resigned and no election has been held to replace them, i wonder what the procedure is according to the bylaws.
I cannot wait for the IAM and usw final election. I was unable to participate in the last election and hope and pray they have mail-in ballots this go around.
yes,if Ak or USW argues against the results before thurs Aug 3 there will be another vote. The only two on the ballot will be USW and IAM.So those of you who voted IAM by mistake can vote the right way this time.
If it is true that Neal was thrown out for revealing secrets, then what about Brian Daley’s secretive misappropriation of our Union funds to take care of his grandson’s little league baseball team? I believe that if AK Steel or USW contest the voting results by Thursday, there will be a re-vote for the top two (IAM and USW). Is this correct?
Should we loose our homes defending retirees benefits where they would pay none / where will as active employees pay on benefits as we are working and then pay when we retire? Please post answer.
Shame on Bd. see if there is anymore support USW when you are making a house payment, car payment, school clothes, utilities, groceries…when all you have is 115 taxed dollars a week.
Mike Neal was kicked out because he was selling secrets to the USW about their plan on negotiations…Must have benn a real “military” secret to cause so many people and put so many children and families in poverty not to mention the community and places of business.
I was a week late filing for benefits and a weeks vacation leaves me with about six weeks left. I predict that unless the IAM janitors and luggage handlers pull magic out of a hat before the next union meeting it is going to get nasty….like Brian is going to get told to his face how stupid he is and the board for following him.
This didn’t start here in middletown….the Cincinnati firefighters and police started paying on their benefits a few years ago. Brian is going to have to remove hiself from his throne. 6 weeks unemployment left.
Boils down to retired people want all their benefits vs people who are going to get their jobs lost and their families hurt. Is this plane enough for ya?
1) Those who think for themselves and can see the big picture.
2)Those who blindly accept what they are told as gospel.
A 57% IAM win is not a landslide victory. The 43% who voted USW will always keep the best interests of the retirees and members close at heart, and sometimes that means removing Brian Daley and the board.
I cannot believe the childishness of our current board and the newly elected union. I cannot believe how many of the union members agreed to follow you to nowhere. I voted and supported USW, I have admitted that I cannot support the president of our union, especially after hearing this. Bring us a contract to vote on, we are tired of watching you get everything YOU want. We need our jobs back more than you need any power or more money.
I think it is very chidish to ask someone to resign just because they were for another union and the other union didn,t win. They need to grow up.Children will make each other quit if someone doesn,t play the game their way but they are children and do things a child,s way, adults are suppossed to do thyings ways.
Voting usw did’nt get Mike N. ask to resign, more like the renegade tatic he used to go against the A.E.I.F. If you can’t trust him, you damn sure don’t need him. The majority has spoken
Any CEO that had to deal with someone like Daley would say and do what is has said and done. Sir iron fist Daley wants things his way or the highway>>Look at who is on the highway…Daley is the worst thing that could have happened to you and you people did it and now you will choose to live with it….
Is IAM going to give BD a big raise? I hope notbecause he is the problem. A.K. should fire him if possible and let him try to find a job in the local area. I would not hire him after what he has done to the rank and file members of A.K., but then most of them were too dumb to figure him out.
I think the politics clouded the minds of my fellow brothers and sisters and the wrong union has been voted in for the wrong reasons. I have no proof, but I think BD has turned out to be a mistake. I think he is concerned with only himself and the few close to him. This is the only reason we would receive a one page letter from Daley explaining why to NOT vote for USW. He does not seem to be dealing in good faith. I am concerned.
Tom, why don’t use spend less time on asking people’s opinions on issues and start reporting news? Where is the OHSA report on the death? Where is the OHSA report on the explosion. I have heard citations were issued weeks ago! What is your opinion on that?
Mike Neal tried to save you after he considered what can happen with the IAM. Daley wants to kick him out, well that is okay but my question is what would keep the busted AEIF member from impeaching Daley and having a president that can do the job. Everyone needs respect and as bad as i hate to say this, even AK should have respect and they will never get it from YOUR SORRY BOSS….
First off I think you the AEIF member have made a terrible mistake by voting in the IAM. Now you have a union with no steel experience, yes your current board will do the talking with AK but where have they gotten you so far? (NO WHERE)
They also have lied when they said they would not remove Mike Neal as a board member and Daley DID lie, again the IRON FIST BOSS HAS SPOKEN and that is a BIG reason you do not have a contract and will not get a contract for some time.
Stop crying at least in the future you will have a job to go back to. 20 plus years ago that’s more than the Armco people in Ambridge, Houston and part of Kansas City could look forward to.
its sad that you voted a union in that was kicked out of magnode in trenton a few years ago who knows nothing about steelmaking and not vote a union that knows a lot about steelmaking.
WOW! Great job IAM. Now you have split our union even more. Daley had to get someone else to do his dirty work. If you spend the time fighting AK like you did fighting USW, we would have a contract!
I do not agree with asking Neal to step down. He was just giving his personal opinion which is an American Right! This is almost as bad as Rich getting forced out of his position 2 years ago after almost beating Shelley. I think it is very childish…
I THINK its great! Vote for a union that knows nothin bout steel and DON’T vote for the other one that does.Somethin stinks and I don’t have to work there to know that.
It’s unfortunate but I believe a necessary step to ask Mr. Neal to step down. He has shown where his allegience lies and the USW would only use his knowledge of negotiations as they go forward to try to cause more disruption and delay in getting the best steelmakers in the country back to work.
what happened to being united after the election…this is not the way to start out..do all of the ones who voted for the usw have to fear for their union rights…shame on aief/iam…i am already embarassed by this action..i would think they would be more concerned about the lock out
Ask questions… Why did the AEIF leadership support the IAM? The IAM offered the funds and resources to allow the AEIF leadership to remain in position with no threat of being ousted by a new vote. This means Brian Daley continues to receive approx. $832.00 weekly and possible gas and food allowances while sitting at home or in air conditioned surroundings “negotiating” for “us”. Call and ask about the $10,000 spent on food by the AEIF leaders during a two month span.
Just heard that Mike Neil was told to resign or the union would blame him for not getting a contract in the last 5 months due to his involvement with USW, surely BD and board are not stooping this low? BD got his union, not get us a contract!
YOU over paid rednecks need to get off your high horse an fancy toys an just suck it up an go back to work ,most of you clowns have nothing more than a high school education .
If you want to see where honesty lies, then ask Brian Daley why his grandson’s coach-pitch baseball team received drinks and snacks donated by the AEIF; however, the AEIF never authorized it, nor did any other team receive AEIF gratuities. Simple abuse of power and our union money, but a clear indication of lacking moral character. This is the man who’s rhetoric you believed? Call up and ask about it and see what response you get.
Hey folks remember its a job, you were not adopted. AK is in the business of making money and are doing it without you, someone better wake up to reality but that is unlikely since the same people are doing the negotiating as before the election.
Mabey the City of Middletown will step up to the plate and Help Settle, Wait a minute lets look at the record.
Lake Middletown
Sorg Paper
Crystal Tissue
Middletown

and the list goes on. Mabey they could Anex AK and that would give you a couple of years mabey
AEIF please stick together and don’t let all this bickering back and forth weaken your resolve to get back to work. It makes me proud to see all of you still on the picket lines standing up for what you believe in.
When will people give up this “workers of the world unite” philosphy? Yeah corporations are trying to make money and consider workers a way to do that. Likewise workers are trying to make money and consider corporations a way to do that. The corporation - worker relationship is a symbiotic one.
Hopefully, union management, with an established and recognized power base, will be able to finally do what is necessary for its members(although unpopular) and end the strike - PERIOD.
All it would take to end this is for AK to pay us the same as Asland or Butler. But we have a CEO with greed and a chip on his shoulder for his employee’s . Its hard to understand why one man would cause so much unneeded pain and suffering to some of the best workers in the country! All we want is a fair deal and to get back to work.
Read Confessions of a Union Buster. Is it going to take 10 years for people to see the light? AK is playing with your head and you are letting them.Focus your anger where it belongs.
It saddens me that so many people prefer to be led, rather than search for the truth for themselves. I only hope the same old leadership, of the new union will get realistic and concentrate on getting us back to work. We have lost so much now, it will take the rest of our lives to make it up, if that is even posible.
It is sad to see the total disdain that AK has for it’s union workers
(Notice Mr. Wainscott’s comments!). But I guess AK is not much different than any other American company-
workers are a disposable entity. Use ‘em, abuse ‘em, and turn them out to pasture when their done with ‘em. It ain’t right. When will we, as a people, wake up?
Is anything really different? NO… new union name, same union morons! BD and board haven’t done anything for us in the last 5 months will they in a month, before unemployment runs out… I doubt it. Most of the people that voted for IAM never even heard USW’s side… they only voted that way because BD stood behind a microphone and said to. I’m glad some of us can think for ourselves. Good luck to everyone.
You are the idot if You’re not going to picket and support our board! That means that you are not gonna stand up with your union brothers and sisters either! If thats the case, who wants you out there anyways!!!!
For you 1000 people who voted for the IAM, that’s all we’ve heard this whole time is about their pension plan. Did you already forget that AK has rejected that plan? What makes you think that now they won’t? What else does IAM bring to the table? Did we vote them in solely for the purpose of the pension plan? Is that why they wouldn’t debate any other questions that may have come up? Have fun picketing, I will not stand out there and support our idiotic board and new union….
I hope that the IAM does better than they did for the Local at Magnode in Trenton a few years ago. They were screwed completely by the IAM and Magnode.
Using process of elimination based on the vote count in the article, 352 AEIF members didn’t vote…What kind of moron doesn’t vote, given the impact on one’s life??
Will AK, having previously rejected joining IAM pension in past meetings, now suddenly give in - especially in light of very promising performance metrics with its replacement workers? Is Daley now the local business manager for IAM? Will you guys EVER get back in this mill, or will I pay off my house by Christmas? So many questions, so little time - ‘cause I’m working 72 - 84 of YOUR hours each week.
I do hope you all eventually settle this, but both you and AK are going to have to give.
The machinists won but it will be bad for the steelworkers…
This vote effectively is a vote to continue to strike. The recent earnings announcement should convince >everyone< that AK Steel is >not< backing down. The machinists will hold out for another 6 months to year and a half but will ultimately accept the same deal they had in the beginning.
The usw can kiss my rearend as they are leaving because they had their noses where it did not belong and were not wanted except for those of you who were misimformed! They already were voted down here several other times beause they are no good! Just talk to someone from Ashland and you’ll understand!
Nothing but an excercise in futility. It doesn’t matter who represents the hourly workforce at this point. AK has already stated the lock-out will continue has long as necessary.
You will get what you deserve as a result of this election. You have not had the opportunity to vote up or down on an AK contract, so this is your proxy:
IAM wins, Daley stays, lockout continues.
USW wins, professionals come to town, lockout ends in 6 weeks.
I pray for a USW win. The majority of the members of the AEIF have been ignored this entire time. Funny how we can be called and asked to picket, but no one can call to tell of groceries avaliable. I feel for those who have truly suffered, at the cost of those who have their own narrow minded agenda.
It isn’t going to matter which union. AK isn’t agreeing to ANY contract until they get a 3rd world labor agreement. Let them close the doors and move to El Salvador and use Latins for their sweatshop.

Nothing but an excercise in futility. It doesn’t matter who represents the hourly workforce at this point. AK has already stated the lock-out will continue has long as necessary.

You will get what you deserve as a result of this election. You have not had the opportunity to vote up or down on an AK contract, so this is your proxy: IAM wins, Daley stays, lockout continues. USW wins, professionals come to town, lockout ends in 6 weeks.
for your sake, I hope you chose wisely.
