Double-O-Trailer: Look! Up in the Sky!

It’s a great day for trailers as new ones for Superman Returns and Casino Royale, the new Bond film, have hit the net.

Superman Returns: I’ve already said this is my most anticipated summer movie, and darned if the this doozy of a preview doesn’t make it even more so. The only thing that concerns me is the presence of Lois Lane’s child, which could cute-si-fy (new word!) the movie, but otherwise, I’m hooked. Kevin Spacey looks like he’s having a ball as Luthor. I know I’m seeing this sucker at least twice. Once to review it for you fine readers, and twice to see it in IMAX 3D. Out June 30.

Casino Royale: Look, I’m gonna miss Pierce Brosnan too, but this trailer should silence those whiners who are still crying over Daniel Craig’s selection as the sixth actor to play Bond. (That lousy, bloated 1967 spoof of the same name with Peter Sellers and Woody Allen does NOT count!) I was already confident Craig could be 007 based on his performances in Layer Cake and Munich. Now I’m utterly convinced. The trailer indicates that Bond is going back to his roots, with a grittier style. That’s fitting, since this film is based on the Ian Fleming novel that introduced us to Bond in the first place. Out Nov. 17.

Both trailers look great! I never really understood the vitriol involving the choice of Daniel Craig to play Bond. This movie looks really good, and I think he fits the role very well!
