Pick the left fielder, I buy dinner
Apparently, a lot of you people like to eat out. Especially if it’s free - although I’m flattered that some of you offered to pay.
Anyway, response to my offer to buy dinner for one person who picks the Opening Day left fielder for the Cincinnati Reds has been overwhelming, even though I tried to hide it at the bottom of the blog - and thanks for reading it all the way through.
For those who missed it, here’s the deal. Just post on this blog who you believe will be the Opening Day left fielder for the Reds. Post your legitimate e-mail address so the winner can be reached. I’ll take all the entries with the winning name, put them in my Reds’ spring training hat and draw one name.
Winner get a free dinner at a nice place with me (McDonald’s and Wendy’s are nice places, but it will be much nicer than that).
If you are far, far away and you win, another appropriate gift will be decided upon.
Deadline is next Wednesday (February 17). One entry per person, please.
Good luck, Hal

The title should be “Pick the Right Fielder by the All-Star Break, I’ll buy Dinner.” Hal, don’t be another short-memory Reds fan who has forgotten how Bruce failed to hit in the clutch and struck out all the time. Maybe he turns it around, maybe he turns into Austin Kearns.

Bruce struggles, but has a strangle hold on RF. CD has put up the best numbers and played the best Def in CF, but Patterson, Willie T and now Stubbs somehow have been GIVEN the CF job. GOMES put up the best #s in LF, but once again the organization seems hell bent on GIVING the job to someone else?? I guess I’m the only 1 who believes a ML player should have to produce to play?? It seems as if Heisey will be GIVEN the job to lose; apparently it’s his time?

If Dusty Baker learned anything last year: Don’t put hitters who have under .300 OBP’s in the leadoff spot. With that being said, Chris Dickerson and his satisfactory OBP binded with his talent and upside seems like the fit the Reds meager offense could assuredly use considering Orlando Cabrera will not be the offensive tablestter management expects.

I say none of the above. I still believe the Reds will trade one of their starting pitchers and one or two of their excess position players for a proven left fielder shortly before the season starts.

It should be Todd Frazier because the young man is correct. Hit and they will find you a spot. Juan Francisco is still only 21 so a little more seasoning will help. Frazier is the number one prospect so it is time to find out. Bruce, Stubbs and Votto all got their chances recently so if the Reds are truly fair, it is Fraziers to lose.
