Weathers placed on DL
Although the MRI was negative Saturday, relief pitcher David Weathers was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday by the Cincincinnati Reds with ulnar nerve inflammation.
It is only the second time in his 15-year career that Weathers has been on the DL.
No other move was made and the Reds played Sunday’s game against Milwaukee one player short, although GM Wayne Krivsky said, “We’re covered. Everybody is available and Josh Fogg could pitch.”
And that’s the main reason no other move was made. Matt Belisle will be activated Monday to start against the Dodgers and Fogg goes to the bullpen. Krivsky said, “That’s all we’re doing, for now.”
Manager Dusty Baker said, “Very good news on him that the MRI was negative. Nothing serious. But I’m voting to DL him. We have five months to go and we can’t let the way we’re playing affect what we do.
“What Weathers felt in his arm might be a red flag to his body that he has been used a lot,” said Baker. “Whether you like him or not, he is durable and he wants the ball. He has been used a lot here the last three years (70, 67, 73 appearances).”
The 20 days allotted for rehab expire Tuesday on catcher David Ross, who caught Saturday night at Class AAA Louisville, so a decision must be made there, too.

Chill—hotshot! Hear a little humor! Some of you know-it-all’s should have tried playing! I suppose Patterson swinging at balls over his head is going to create walks? The Reds want a right handed hitter at first base, instead of two lefties—I’d say good, even if he’s a pinch hitter, most of the time. Let Votto play. With your “21” year old example, we’d better send Cueto back down in a hurry, I suppose. Oh yes,you were correct about ONE thing Weathers did a good job last year; and he will when healthy, this year.

Frank would be the catcher pea-brain!He’s so big there’d be no passed balls—and if there was, you could go get them!

I called this one just a few days ago. DW has been great for the Reds, but his best days are behind him. Get him healthy, try to let him be successful again, and then find a trading partner. It’s time to let some of the younger guys cut their teeth in MLs especially w/ things going like they are and more than likely Griffey’s last year w/ the club. The writings all over the wall: management is hoping for something special this year, and if not, they start over w/ a full blown youth movement next season.

David Weathers is useless, eh? How would you have felt with the 105 losses the Reds would have suffered last year without him, because he held up that lousy bullpen all year. So you think a 21-year-old who is striking out 1:4.7 ABs, has 2 walks in 62 ABs, owns a grand total of 65 games in AAA and, oh, by the way, is yet another left-handed batter in a lineup that could use two fewer lefties, is the salvation of this team and season? Seriously. What game are some of you actually watching? And Frank Thomas? I give: where does he play? He’s nothing more than a DH, and apparently not a very good one any more.

Why is the “brain trust”so stubborn about bringing up Jay Bruce? It is past time to do so. Major league baseball is a shadow of what it used to be—used to be that two things you had to be able to do to make it to the “majors” was: slide and bunt. It is sickening to watch the attempts at sliding—many slide way too late risking a broken leg or ankle, when hitting the bag. Bunting is a joke for the most part—someone tell them to level their bats and keep it level with the ground until they make contact with the ball! Patterson had the bat angled up today—then tried to stab at the ball at contact, when all he has to do is keep it level and “catch the ball with the bat”—in other words let the ball come to the bat.Certainly great movement of pitches can make it more difficult—but stabbing at the ball and especially not keeping your bat level or parallel with the ground, as well as, out in front of your body, will not improve your chances. Good lord, what DO they work on in the Sunshine State? We are talking BASICS here!

Can we place him on the DW list? The Don’t Want list. Dusty, Dusty, Dusty, I knew when you brought your boy Patterson here, you were going to be glued to him. And you are. 0 fer a week now and can’t get the sac down in Sunday’s game. Hmmm, bet Norris would have liked to have been in there.

Weathers to the DL? With Belisle and Bailey ready did anyone not see that move coming?! Weathers burned you twice Dusty- shame on you. I’ve given the same advice to every Reds manager beginning with Miley and look where they are. Here it is again; when you’re in a situation where the game is on the line ask yourself what would Sparky do and then do that. You didn’t have a nine run lead so obviously Weathers was not the right move. Thanks for sending him to the DL but we fans know there is nothing wrong with him- other than the fact he cannot be counted upon when the game is on the line. Adios “Stormy”. Time to darked someone elses clubhouse.
