A simple question from The Chickster

Dayton falls to Urbana, 13-10.

Notre Dame gets its heart ripped out by Michigan, 38-34.

Ohio State succumbs to USC, 18-15.

The Cincinnati Bengals lose to the lowly Denver Broncos, 12-7, on a stinkin’ miracle.

On the prep scene, the “Big Three” — Centerville, Wayne and Northmont — take a tumble.

My question is …

How many Armageddons can one person take in one lousy weekend?

I must look at the bright side.

At least the Elder Panthers and UC Bearcats both won.

Apparently if you live in Ohio - Dayton in particular - Armageddon is all you ever get.

Chick, you know I’m not a big Luckeye fan (not even a little one) but I have a question and answer to help with your question: Why do “the Sweater Vest’s” teams lack confidence at the end of games? Except against a greatly reduced Michigan team, they cannot finish, they have no killer instinct. Look at the Penn State and bowl games last year. No finish!

There’s a LOT of calamity to cram into your final few weeks at DDN Chick, so hold on tight. I just hope it doesn’t include Carson’s prediction of someone getting killed in an NFL game.

The big surprises on the list are UD and Northmont. No surpirse at all in the OSu loss, or those of Centerville and wayne who were playing non-local solid HS programs. The Buckeyes are simply not elite and the Bengals and their highly overated QB are just not very good ( and that should not be a surprise). UD’s programmay be on the decline. with as little disrespect as possible toward Rick Chamberlain, he is obviously no Mike Kelly.

Forgot to comment on ND and Michigan. It appears to me as if the Wolverines may be edging back toward national prmoinence Notre Dame is simply in continued decline.

I didn’t see the last play, turning it off after the Bengals went up 7-6 with 38 seconds left. I knew at that point the only thing that could happened would be bad and I did not want to risk going insane. However, Kudos to the Bengals for covering the kickoff. And also for the long drive to get them the lead. It’s tough because of 16 games each one is very meaningful. I am usually against the prevent defense but with 20 seconds left and on the 13 yard line, I’d sure hope there would be somebody out there stopping this type of nightmare scenario.

Speaking of an NFL player getting killed in a game, one rule I’d like the NFL to adopt is the college rule where if your knee is on the ground you are down. I know it would take a bit from the game but it also adds some true wierdness at times.

Does the term “overrated” register with you Elder boy. Think, OSU, Notre frickin’Dame and the three high school programs only the DDN thinks are great. Urbana beating UD is a shocker although the level of talent in reality may not be that different. The Bengals deserve every bad thing which happens to them for the way they treat the fans. Nice to see UC scoring point while wondering where the hell is Miami’s offense. As for Elder, all the grads stay close because they don’t want to leave their buddies behind.

Shouldn’t it read: the “lowly” Bungals lose to the Denver Broncos?

I don’t agree with you much Chick but it was one depressing weekend.
