Season opener in danger of being blacked out
BENGALS’ SECOND HOME GAME,
SEPT. 27 VS. STEELERS, IS A SELLOUT;
BUT SEPT. 13 OPENER VS. DENVER IS NOT
Good news and bad news for Cincinnati Bengals fans.
The good: The Bengals’ second home game of the 2009 regular season, on Sept. 27 vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been declared a sellout.
The bad: The Sept. 13 opener against the visiting Denver Broncos — 1 p.m., Paul Brown Stadium — is not a sellout.
The ugly: Only you (Bengals fans) can prevent a blackout by buying up the remaining tickets with your hard-earned cash.
With the Bengals playing three of their first five games on the road, the only regular season home game before Oct. 18 for which tickets are available is the Sept. 13 season opener vs. Denver.
“I’m excited to have our first sellout this year on the books,” head coach Marvin Lewis said in a news release today, “and I’m hoping our fans will step up and fill Paul Brown Stadium for Denver as well. Home field advantage is a huge thing in the NFL, and we’ll be looking for that large, loud sea of orange and black when we kick off the season against the Broncos.”
The Bengals enter the ’09 season with a franchise-record streak of 44 straight sellouts (regular and postseason). The last game not to sell out was in November of 2003. With last season’s home finale vs. Kansas City, the Bengals broke a previous record of 43 consecutive sellouts, set between 1988 and 1992.
A sellout for Denver would mean the streak will extend to at least 46.
“We will need good sales through next week, but a sellout is definitely still within range,” said Andrew Brown, Bengals ticket sales manager. “Our goal is to keep our streak alive.”
Options for purchasing tickets include:
• Calling the Bengals Ticket Hotline at 513-621-TDTD (8383) or 866-621-TDTD.
• Visiting the ticket office at Paul Brown Stadium, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (including Labor Day).
• Using Ticketmaster.com.
For further information, fans can visit Bengals.com, the club’s official web site.

C’mon people, buy up the tickets, support the team! At this point in the season they have neither won or lost yet, it’s the best time to go!By Former season ticket holder

I hope there is a blackout so we don’t have to see the trash the Brown family puts on the field and calls a pro football team. I was a season ticket holder for 30 years but dropped the tickets. Got tired of seeing crap teams on the field and lining the pockets of A-Hole Mike and his family. I loved Paul Brown and his teams. But not this current fraud being thrust on the fans.By Tony

Simple- put a competitive team on the field that has a chance of winning and the tickets will sell. No one is going to waste their money or their Sunday afternoon watching what has been fielded in the past.By Ryan

Is Marvin Lewis high?!?! What is there to get excited about with regard to a sell-out vs. the Stealers? There’s going to be 30,000 genetic-experiments-gone-wrong making it basically another road game.By We Dey

Steve, Maybe you are too young to remember that the team was started by and caoch by Paul Brown. He got them to the playoffs in just their third year of existence. Before the Dark ages that began in 1990 they were in contention (1st or 2nd in the division for 10 seasons) even though they played in the same division as Pittsburgh during the time when Pittsburgh was dominating. I don’t know that that makes it woth spending your money on but they were a decent team and can be again!By Redskinatheart

said Andrew Brown, Bengals ticket sales manager. “Our goal is to keep our streak alive.” Again the mentality at play……..how about our goal is to have a winning team so people want to come to the games. This sad organization will never get it. Pathetic…hope the sell out streak ends because the losing one will still carry on!By Spiggity

Don’t buy season tickets. The 10 year luxury suites expire after this year too and that will really hit Mike Brown. It will suck not having all the games on but it is a step we all need to take to get Mike Brown to do moreBy No dey!

Yo, Ryan. Bengals playing for the AFC title? In your frickin’ dreams. Take a reality pill and see what a horsesh-t organization the Bengals really are. Bad ownership that dumps on the fans (try putting up a negative sign in the stadium) and bad coaching staff. Some decent players, but not many. I’m not the only one who told The Family to go screw off. I’m happy spending less on the NFL Package on TV than the money it cost me for season tickets, gas to drive to Cincinnati to see a bad football, eat overpriced stadium football and be surrounded to buttheads like you who think the Bengals are wonderful.By Michael

By all accounts the Broncos will stink on ice this year. The Bengals do that annually. Why pay to watch such pathetic football? I’d rather watch Northmont, Wayne or UC; pay a heckuva lot less, too!By Bleep Blarp

I would rather watch the Lifetime Movie Network’s Weekend Marathon of “Beaters, Cheaters and Molesters” films than attempt to stomach the Bengals’ pathetic performance at football. It’s embarassing…I’d rather be from Detroit where at least the team has heart…and has a new record! HahaBy richardo

To Ryan, Hahahaha… AFC Championship? You must not see the same team I see year in and year out. I wish we could go to the Super Bowl, but I am 25 years and I highly doubt I will ever see the Bengals in a Super Bowl. :-( We all say the same thing every year, “It looks like we might have a shot this year”, and 99.9% of the time they lose, I have just gotten accustomed to them losing all the time. The Bengals just can’t compete against the rest of the NFL. Six 0-6 starts in the last 18 seasons, no other NFL team has more than 2! We are destined for mediocrity! Who Dey!?!?By brad

Chick, I like your reporting, but why are you shilling for the Bengals but running all that info about where to buy tickets? It isn’t your job to sell tickets for the Bengals. To all the cheerleaders who “love your hometown team”, despite the Brown family stealing from Hamilton county taxpayers: why don’t you put your money where your mouth is and go buy a pair of fake jugs and try out for the Ben-Gals squad? Then you can really show your “spirit” and get on the sideline for all the Bungals blacked-out games?By To all the Cheerleaders

Hi Ryan, Teagle, Redskinatheart, Beerman, ctuagentdown, Jim, Matt, w, and Touchdown Troy AKA,AKA,AKA,AKA,AKA,AKA,AKA,AKA,AKA Mikey boy Brown. Nice try!!! The only reason you have 1 sellout is that the Steelers fans travel well and bought all of the available tickets. Get real. You’re a looser and you’re just sperm lucky or you wouldn’t even be in the position to make so many lives miserable and to rob from the whole community to support your stadium. You should be ashamed, but that would not be profitable so I guess you’re not ashamed. You are ruining your Father’s legacy!!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!By Real
