Have the Bengals done enough this offseason to reach the playoffs this fall?
NFL NETWORK ANALYST
SOLOMON WILCOTS
SAYS NAH, BABY, NAH
NFL Network analyst and former Cincinnati Bengals safety Solomon Wilcots chatted with NFL Nation on Tuesday, June 2.
He was asked (by Matt the Cat) if the Bengals have made enough moves in the offseason to make it to the playoffs. Here’s King Solomon’s response:
“I don’t think so Matt. From where they were last year, even though I love the moves they’ve made, considering they’re playing in the AFC with the Colts, Patriots, Steelers, Titans, etc … get in line. I’m not so sure Cedric Benson will fuel the run game to take on the Steelers defense. I’m not so sure the offensive line is good enough to protect Palmer from the Patriots’ or Chargers’ blitzing defenses. And I haven’t heard of one player who will be a double-digit pass rusher to deal with Peyton Manning. Other than that, they’re alright.”
Wilcots called the Ravens’ Ed Reed the best safety in the NFL because he’s the guy quarterbacks fear the most.

So let’s just say the Steelers, Colts, Pats and Chargers win their respective divisions and the Titans are a wild card. I will take the Bengals as the next wild card team in the playoffs. I see your point Solomon but I like the Bengals chances for the last playoff spots as well as any other teamBy WhoDeyGuy

Well, Considering that we DON’T play the Pats or the Colts in the regular season, I like our chances…By WhoDeyGuy

I am die hard Bengals fan but I am doing my best to not get my hopes up this year. Lets remember that 3/5 of our oline will be in new spots or rookies. I really like our defense but they need to pressure the QB. They will be better but don’t take the candy from Mike Brown just yet, this is what he does, he wets your appetite and drives up tickets sales and then lets theteam go south while your still stuck in your 3 year seat licenseBy Rey Maualuga in your face

I’m still eye-ing the Kool-Aid, though, Chickster. Pass me a (spiked) glass, please.By TechGuy

I still maintain that the 2009 Bengals could just as easily be 10-6 as they could be 6-10. If the defense plays to its potential, if the O-line surprises, if injuries are low, a wild card spot could happen. Or it could all implode… yet again.By Touchdown Troy

I love our chances in the AFC North this year. 10-6 or 9-7By Phrank

I disagree to some extent with Solomon’s critique of the Bengal’s. The Bengals have improved enough on both side of the line to advance to the playoffs, but lack the team unity needed to make it to the Super Bowl. The road to the Super Bowl boils down to talent, experience, and team unity. The Bengals have the talent, but lack experience and team unity. The experience will come with time. The team unity will come when Ochocinco, and all Bengal players realize that Super Bowl teams are TEAMS. Winning the Super Bowl is a 12 month commitment. If Chad was a team player he’d be a shoe-in for the NFL Hall of Fame. As a self centered, “me first” guy, if he has another off season, he can kiss his legacy, and the Hall, goodbye.By photoman

Not yet. They are still at least another two years away from their next playoff game. We’ll have to outwait MB and Chad. We can keep Chad ‘till the end of his contract, then let him go. By that time he should be too old for any NFL team.By nyc

3-13 at best…just as long as brown is in charge…they are doomed for failure.By photoman

Have the Bengals (MB) done enough to bring the fans back to their seats? It remains to be seen. The filling of the stadium seats on game day will probably come a year or two before the next Cincinnati playoff game.By TechGuy

If this team somehow were 4-1, I think we will see a full stadium. This city wants a winning team in a big way. The waft of anything at all north of mediocrity will put butts in seats. 3-13 at best? Fitzpatrick managed to win 4 games. And they still play the Browns twice, who have somehow managed to become a bigger mess than the Bengals.By Bob

Finally some reason. On a scale of 1-10 our line has went from a 3 to a 6. Twice as good but against the 8-10 defenses we are going to still get stomped on by the usual suspects. We need a quality receiver if Chad isnt going to try. We need 1 more quality lineman preferable veteran not over 28. A pro bowl defensive lineman and another strong maybe quicker back like the Giants platoon. I would take Bradshaw for Ochocinco in a heartbeat. I dont care if he set the NFL record for yardage this year I am tired of hearing his name associated with the Bengals. I lived thru the same thing from the 90’s til now with it.
