Bengals alumni alert: Paul Robinson’s son dies (and the greatness of QB Ken Anderson)

PAUL ROBINSON’S SON DIES

AT AGE 26 FROM ILLNESS

CALLED ‘MELAS SYNDROME’

===LUDWIG AT LARGE is deeply saddened by the death of Paul Robinson’s son, PJ. I encourage alumni and fans to write to Paul at the address listed below. I would also like to thank the Bengals’ No. 1 fan, “Touchdown Troy” Richards, of Hillsboro, Ohio, for alerting me to the Bengals’ video of the snow game in 1977 with the immortal Lindsay Nelson calling the play-by-play for CBS.===

This just in from Paul Robinson, the Bengals legendary tailback from The University of Arizona:

“Hello Chick:

“Please mention to all my NFL & AFL Brothers and Sisters.

Chick, Thankyou so much for talking about me on your blog! Ken Anderson will always be my favorite Bengal of alltime and i thought this video just shows how sharp he was even in bad weather.

Why isn’t Kenny Anderson in the hall of fame again? Peter butter and jelly King should be ashamed of himself turning a blind eye of the greats who played in this town and team he used to cover.

Kenny Anderson was my favorite player growing up, and the video clip is from the era that made me an die hard Bengals fan. In ‘77, they actually had a winning record for the THIRD straight year (and 5th year out of 6). It’s been pretty thin gruel since, and that is part of the problem. Here we have a Midwest-based franchise that never cared much for marketing, one with long periods of total ineptitude on the field. National sports writers have had a hard time taking the Bengals seriously, and often seem to disregard their history. With all the competition for getting into the NFL Hall of Fame, this lack of respect probably kills Anderson’s chances. … Regarding Peter King of Sports Illustrated, I get the strong impression the former Bengals beat writer would rather say as little about the team as possible. (Even when compared to most analysts.) Not sure why that would be, but I would expect him to still vote fairly for the hall.

I don’t think we can bunch the PB era of the Bengals with this MB era. PB left us up a creek without a paddle. We only have MB, and he seems clueless as to winning football games. His concern (and he has done a good job at that) is filling the stadium seats on game day.

Mike Brown served a long apprenticeship under his father. He was the Assistant GM while PB coached from 1968-75. He then ran the whole show while PB acted mostly as a figure head until his death in 1991. Thus there is no clean demarcation between the Paul and Mike Brown eras. If you want to draw a line somewhere, it probably should go after 1975. Era 1 — PB coached and built-up an expansion team into a unit that played well against everyone but the “big boys”. That lasted all of eight years. Whoopee. Era 2 — Father and son presiding over glacial rebuilding phases followed by nanosecond winning cycles. This has been going on for 33 years. That’s 33 years of mostly embarrassing play, and it greatly overlaps PB’s life. Most Hall of Fame voters must snicker when they think of the Bengals, and those who remember Era 1 will also recall the mercurial old coach who didn’t like the media. It’s too bad for guys like Kenny Anderson and Ken Riley.

You could be right, but until PB was completely gone MB was still looking over his shoulder to his dad. The first thing MB did after PB left was to hire DS as the head coach; thus began to me the MB era. The Bengals have not been the same since PB left. When SW left to go to Tampa Bay, AM wanted to follow (bolted) with him. Thus began to me the MB era.

Hello there. I have something to say, about AloeVera, something about which you wrote above, about health and Weight Loss Tips… For a long time, I and my nice friend use the products of the Forever Living Products. We usually see the good results and also we earn money for our families and we are happy. My friend works with aloe vera in the company of FLP has more than 5 years (My friend works ONLY in the forever living company and has a wife and three children). I know aloe products for weight loss management for a long time, but a year ago, began working as a distributor in the flp company. Of course, the job is not easy, but in no other case, You can earn so much money with so much much fun and smiling faces around…. So if you want to discuss something about your post, and about my experience with Aloe Vera products for weight management, I’ll always be glad to talk.
