Ludwig’s hole in one ‘worth every penny’

CELL PHONE RINGS

WITH GOOD NEWS

So I’m at the University of Dayton Arena the other night, getting ready to hunker down for a boys high school basketball tournament game …

… and my cell phone goes off.

It’s my brother, Jeff Ludwig, telling me he just nailed a hole-in-one on the par-3 No. 8 at Furnace Creek Golf Course in Death Valley, Cali.

“I hit a dead-straight 7 iron 145 yards right at the pin,” Jeff said. “It bounced two feet in front of the hole and hopped in!!!! I turned in disbelief, asked for reassurance, then started chest-bumpin the guys!!!!! What a feeling!!!!! I’m still on Cloud Nine!!!!!!”

What makes Furnace Creek unique is that it’s the world’s lowest elevation golf course at 214 feet below sea level.

Of course, his older brother, me, wanted to know how much it cost him on the 19th hole … the clubhouse tavern.

The verdict: $250 in adult beverages.

“It was worth every penny,” Jeff said.

Jeff is co-owner of Buckeye Food Service Sales, Inc., a food-service brokerage with offices in Cincinnati and Columbus.

Jeff, even a blind squirle finds an acorn once and awhile. Your still one short of tying me, but it is great to get one. Let’s get together this spring and play and go fishing at Lake Cumberland.

There’s a Par 3, 150 yards, where I hit sometimes and I swear, I’m going to get a hole in one someday using a 7-Iron too. Had two close calls already. Congrats to Jeff! Tell him to play Death Valley in the summer…doh!

Bring it on blog bouncer. Put your $$$ where you bait is. Just kidding, fishing is for relaxing and drinking beer. By the way bouncer, I also stink at golf.

Congratulations Jeff. I’m jealous. I actually know this guy. It’s probably the first time he’s hit the green on his tee shot. Thank God he didn’t have to putt. Next time you’re in Florida, the adult beverages are on me.

Congrats Jeff! If it is that far below sea level, does everything drain towards the bottom of the cup??? By the way, I just hade a hole in one on the 18th at Maketewah CC. Awfully damed exciting isn’ t it?
