Bengals re-sign TB Cedric Benson

BENSON EMERGED AS CLUB’S

NO. 1 TAILBACK LAST SEASON

After feeling the sting of losing wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, the Cincinnati Bengals eased their pain by signing free agent tailback Cedric Benson to a multi-year contract on Tuesday, March 3.

The Bengals made the announcement at 3:45 p.m.

Benson, a fifth-year veteran and former first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears, rushed 214 times for 747 yards (3.5) and two touchdowns in 12 games with 10 starts for the Bengals in 2008. He also caught 20 passes for 185 yards (9.3) with a long gain of 79 yards.

The 5-foot-11, 220-pounder from the University of Texas will turn 27 on Dec. 28.

The Bengals and Benson reached terms following Benson’s visit to the Houston Texans.

The signing fills a massive need for the Bengals, who also have Chris Perry, Kenny Watson and DeDe Dorsey on the roster.

CHRIS PERRY!i am sure glad we drafted him in the first round!i need to re-evaluate the whole using the pronoun ‘we’ when talking of the bengals. after all, i would have cut him a long, long time ago—and i knew he was a puss from watching big 10 football, so i never would have drafted him in the first place.

believe it or not, the bengals made good on this deal….$7mil for 2 years, that’s nothing. Now can we please stop talking about Laveranues Coles and work on signing an O-Lineman….and a FB. Let’s give Benson some room to do his thing.

Signing CB is a positive step for our Bengals. Somebody the linemen want to block for. Watching CB might be worth the price of admission to the 2009 Bengals home season.

Thank God. Benson re-signing means Bengals fans don’t have to worry for the next two months about the possibility of Mike Brown making another boneheaded move by taking Beanie Wells with the 6th pick.

A good move. Reading the depth chart, why don’t we go ahead and cut Perry and Dorsey? RBs better than either can be had on the 2nd day of the draft. Should have signed Jason Brown…but that would have made too much sense. We still need a GOOG nickel back and could pick up a servicable right tackle in free agency. Coles would be a plus, then Chatman could be cut to cover part of the cost!

Birk to the Ravens isn’t a done deal (yet), but heaven forbid the Bengals make a run at a six-time Pro Bowler who would not only solidify a need position but PROTECT THEIR $%&?! FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK.

Oh wait, on top of being a six-time Pro Bowl center Matt Birk is also active in his community and loved by the fans in Minnesota. There’s clearly no need for redemption here. Carson Palmer needs some talented free agent offensive linemen to smack around their girlfriends or pile up some DUIs to get them on Mikey’s free agent wish list.

Benson did the right thing if it don’t work out 2 years from now the Bengals won’t out that much.
