Sooners about to become Gator bait

I can appreciate the chip on Oklahoma’s shoulder.

It’s more like a boulder, weighing the Sooners down.

They’re tired of hearing they can’t win the big one, that they can’t capture the national championship, that they’ve let it slip from their grasp before and that they’re about to do it again.

Like the elephant in the living room, they can’t get around the criticism, and the criticism is justified.

That said, I must admit I like the Sooners and their head coach, Bob Stoops, a lot. So much so that I’ll probably find myself root-root-rooting for them in tonight’s BCS championship game at Dolphin Stadium in Miami.

But I don’t think they’ll win.

My vote goes to the Florida Gators because of one man — quarterback Tim Tebow.

I believe he’s the best player in the land. I also believe he’s college football’s greatest team leader.

And I feel that someday he’s going to be an outstanding NFL quarterback.

Head coach Urban Meyer, whose ego is out-distanced only by his arrogance, should count himself fortunate to have such a wonderful player in his program.

Tebow has blossomed into a much more polished passer than he was a year ago. Everything about his game — from his poise to his arm strength to his accuracy — has improved.

It’s just that his passing skill is overshadowed by his running ability.

I laugh at the people who don’t believe he’s a first-round draft pick, who believe he should be a running back or tight end, who believe he’s a second-, third- or fourth-round draft pick.

Tebow is a winner in every aspect … on and off the field.

That’s how great quarterbacks are measured.

On college football grandest stage, he’ll shine in the spotlight, steal the show, take the cake, hoist the glass football trophy above his head … and give it a kiss.

The final: Florida 34, Oklahoma 31.

Yeah, Meyer’s got an ego the size of a house. But Chick, his teams have backed him up. Until then, his ego ain’t goin’ nowhere. Should FL win, it’ll be interesting to see how much noise Stoops makes about getting screwed or wanting a playoff — same w/ whiny Pete Carroll, who’s got no legs to stand on because the PAC-10 is the most over-rated conference in college football. It’ll also be interesting to see how much of a pass Stoops continues to get because OK can’t win BCS games, unlike Jim Tressel. I’m pulling for FL over OK. The SEC is clearly the best conference in college football.

Hey Chick…Florida wins-on Tebow’s legs, not his arm. Now that I’ve predicted that, watch him do to the Sooners what McCoy did to the Buckeyes. Tebow will be a mid-first round, “Matt Jones” pick for someone. I project he will be an excellent wide receiver in the NFL, unless an Offensive Coordinator wants to run the “Wildcat Offense” full time-which is about 2 years away. From the Single Wing to the Wildcat (same offense) in almost 100 years. I’m still waiting for the West Coast revolution in high schools. Any HS A.D.’s out there? I have a West Coast playbook.

Questions already being posted if the Gators are really the #1 team. UH, YEAH! The ONLY team who has a legitimate gripe otherwise is Utah, Texas is a VERY distant 2nd. Unfortunately, there’ll never be a playoff system since the NCAA & Conference Presidents won’t let it happen (see “it’s all about the $$”). USC & whiny Pete Carroll have no legs to stand on because THE PAC-10 IS THE MOST OVER-RATED CONFERENCE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL! Who the hell does anyone from that league play? Each year, Carroll whines & cries about how unfair the BCS is, & always after their 1st & sometimes only loss. Trojans — take care of your business & you may just get back to the championship game. Or maybe the PAC-10 needs to step up & improve, maybe you’ll just get to the dance. Or if you do get back to the dance (see the game vs Texas & Vince Young), you need to take care of business there as well. The media does nothing but kiss the behinds of the PAC-10 & BIG-12 all friggin’ year & look what happens - they lose in the big game (& yes, just like Ohio State). Curiously though, Stoops & OU continually get a pass when they can’t win the big one, unlike Jim Tressel & the Buckeyes, who’re always maligned by the media & all the other “SUPERIOR TEAMS & CONFERENCES.” Hmmm..very interesting. Bottom line - Gators are the champs, get over it OK, BIG-12 & PAC-10 losers! Screw you guys & your conferences. As a diehard OSU BUCKEYES fan, I at least have the stones to say, but more importantly KNOW, that the SEC IS THE BEST CONFERENCE IN COLLEGE PERIOD!!
