Palmer’s feelin’ groovy, ‘cutting loose’ and preparing to play final game or two of ‘08

LEWIS: ORTHOPEDISTS BELIEVE

CARSON WON’T NEED SURGERY

WHY NOT SHUT HIM DOWN? ‘BECAUSE

HE WOULD LIKE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY’

===LUDWIG AT LARGE believes Palmer is nuts to want to play again in 2008. O-line has allowed 48 sacks, 31 more than 2007. I can hear the ambulance sirens now on Dec. 21 in Cleveland or Dec. 28 at home against K.C. I only wish the final 3 games of the year could be canceled.===

Injured Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer wants a chance to play again this season, and all indications are he will get the opportunity.

Head coach Marvin Lewis said at his Monday news conference that Palmer likely won’t play against the Washington Redskins, but Palmer hasn’t been ruled out for the final two games against Cleveland or Kansas City.

“Every indication of every football orthopedist that has seen Carson has been there will probably be no need for surgery (on his right elbow),” Lewis said.

Palmer, whose ligament and tendon were detached from the bone on a sack against the New York Giants on Sept. 21, began throwing a football last week for the first time Oct. 5.

Palmer said he’d begin with 10-, 12- and 15-yard throws.

“He’s a little bit beyond that already,” Lewis said. “He’s done well with everything he has done thus far. He excited about it, and we’ll continue to allow him to throw farther and harder with more regularity.

“He has been cutting loose with it and it’s just a matter of keeping things going, day after day after day that an NFL quarterback does, and not have any (pain) issues.”

Could he play against the visiting Redskins on Sunday?

“I don’t think there’s much chance of him playing this week because he has not practiced with us for a while,” Lewis added. “He hasn’t thrown the ball at the distance and length he needs to yet, so it’s unlikely.”

Why not shut him do for the season?

“Because he would like an opportunity to play,” Lewis said. “If he is healthy and well, that’s what he’ll do, play football. That’s what players do.”

DEAR CARSON: LISTEN TO THE CHICKSTER. DON’T DO IT, STUD. THE FUTURE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE PRESENT.

“The future is more important than the present”? What future would that be? This team will suck as long as Mikey runs the show, Carson should just sit out and demand a trade”.

How pathetic that you asked an NFL coach if he would throw the final 3 games of the season. At least we know one thing about Marvin, he is more honorable than most Bungle fans.

Pathetic? As actress Polly Holliday used to say on “Alice,” … “Kiss My Grits!” Cheers, Dawgie & thanks for reading & commenting on my blog … now go crawl back under the rock from where you reside. —- Chick Ludwig

Is it even possible for a team as woefully inept and soft as this current crop of Bengals to throw a game?

Was that really Chick? I’m new to the blog and if in fact that was really Chick shooting back he’s my new hero! More need to take that stance. BTW Carson playing would be the #1 most laughable moves in sports….of all time.

I’m not surprised. After hearing what Mike Brown said about the team last week we know that intelligence doesn’t come in the picture. Other than that, it’s stupid, it’s unnecesary, it’s risky, it’s juvenile, it’s selfish and ther is no reason for it. Sure, Carson can send Jordan back to the inactive list and Carson can end his career there. That’s brotherly love for ya.

Moved to Bowling Green, KY several years ago. At the mall tonight, noticed the clearance rack at the Hibbet’s store PACKED with Bengals gear in all shapes and sizes. Same situation at a Meijer in Florence last week. Bengal merchandisers may need to go to DC to get a bailout to save themselves…..

I hope this isn’t a misguided effort to escape a Top 5 draft pick. Two wins in the final two weeks could theoretically do it for them. That would allow Mike Brown to save some money at signing time. I wouldn’t put it past him.

Being too cynical about Mike Brown has proven not cynical enough but I doubt Carson will start against Cleveland… it’s an away game.

I agree! No sense in CP playing this year or until the Bengals can fix the OL to stop the sacks. With the condition the Browns are in, Cincinnati should probably win there without CP.

I bet Mikey is in the background screaming at Carson and Marvin to play him because Mikey needs the money. He could care less about Carson’s (Redeemer but not a protector)career. Besides if Palmer retires because of injury Mikey just might be off the hook for millions (I don’t know how that works). Also, isn’t it the Cleveland game where most of the season ending injuries have hit the Bengal players? Not a good omen.
