Free safety Marvin White headed for Injured Reserve with ruptured ACL and MCL

BENGALS SET CLUB RECORD

FOR MOST PLAYERS ON ‘IR’

WHITE WILL BECOME NO. 21

TO LAND ON SEASON-ENDING

INJURED RESERVE LIST

At least the Cincinnati Bengals lead the league in something — injuries.

They’ve placed a single-season, club-record 20 players on Injured Reserve this year, and more will follow before the 2008 season comes to a merciful end for the NFL’s worst offensive team.

Free safety Marvin White is about to become IR victim No. 21.

Head coach Marvin Lewis reported Monday that White sustained a major knee injury when he ruptured his ACL and MCL in Sunday’s 34-3 blowout loss to the visiting Baltimore Ravens, and continued to play on his bad leg.

Lewis said White’s injury occurred “early” and White played “three-quarters” of the game with the injury.

Chris Crocker will start at one safety spot against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Nov. 7, at Lucas Oil Stadium. The other safety spot is a grab-bag affair among Kyries Hebert, John Busing and Jamar Fletcher.

Fletcher is a cornerback with the ability to play safety.

Chinedum Ndukwe would be a candidate to start, but he’s missed the past two games with a foot injury.

Backup tight end Ben Utecht (foot) and starting right end Jonathan Fanene (eye) also suffered injuries against the Ravens, making for another MRI Monday.

Utecht, signed as a restricted free agent from the Colts, has been nothing short of a disappointment with 15 catches for 116 yards and 0 TDs in 9 games with 6 starts because he’s been injured so often.

Right end Antwan Odom, who was deactivated against the Ravens with a shoulder injury, is expected to be healthy enough to return to the lineup at Indianapolis on Dec. 7.

That’s the target date for injured QB Carson Palmer (right elbow) to begin throwing again.

It’s clear Palmer needs surgery because the ligament and tendon are detached from the bone. He should have the operation and get ready for 2009.

There’s no harm in Palmer going on IR. He’ll simply add to the club record.

Hey Chick, were you invited to lob softballs to Mike Brown or were Curnutte and Hobson the only ones lucky enough to get the golden ticket with their Wonka Bar?

That press conference with Mikey Brown was the most pathetic example of a gutless pundit playing footsie I have ever seen! No hard questions - no follow ups - just drivel. Mikey %&$#Brown shoved it down our throats by being his condscending and aloof self. He should be the main character in a Dickens’ Christmas play. Does he sign everyone’s paycheck, or does it just seem that way?

Hey- don’t change a thing!! The Bengal games followed by the worn out Alan Cutler phrase “it’s a bad day to be a Bengals fan”, Davy Laughatem’s locker(morgue) room report and the distraught fans calling in about Mikey Brown are the best entertainment hours one could have on a Sunday afternoon. All of this, after listening to Bradly I’mSoHandsome and Laughatem giggling like little school girls when they do well and finding every excuse under the sun when they do poorly- doesn’t get any better than this!
