Should WR Chris Henry be given another chance?
HE’S BACK (SORT OF)
Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry is back in the news.
See: Read the story
Henry, cut by the Bengals on April 3, 2008, in the wake of his fifth arrest in three years, apparently will be released from house arrest so he can try out for an NFL team.
It’s proof, once again, that the NFL is a business. Despite a player’s legal issues, if he can get in the end zone, then he’ll continue to draw interest from NFL teams.
LUDWIG AT LARGE would like to know how readers feel about Henry. Two questions: Should he be allowed to try out for an NFL team? If you were an NFL owner, would you bring him in for an interview, physical exam and tryout?

Chickster, I can’t believe anyone would touch this guy. He is a great talent, but has nothing between the ears. He can go try to find some interest but I will bet the minute a team gives him a sniff, the commish will suspend him for at least a year. He is a huge waste…By WhoDeyBuck

Chris Henry will be playing for nobody this year and probably the next. He has violated his parole both in Kentucky and Florida and will have to serve some prison time. Once he is released, possibly several years from now, he will then face at least a one year suspension from the don, er, Commissioner God-dell. Assuming Henry doesn’t jam himself up more along the way (riiight), he should be allowed to find a team and play football. However, if I owned a team, I wouldn’t give the thug a sniff.By Gary

NO, he should never play in the NFL again. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance; after that it is just enabling his behavior and it’s both bad for him and the NFL. Other businesses would not keep allowing this behavior from an employee. No, no, no - I wouldn’t have him play for me. He’s proven that he is unreliable & believes he is above the law.By simeon winkler

There is a sucker (with enough money to buy an NFL ticket) born every minute… This still rings true and so we know, from the past performance of the National Football League owners, that Chris Henry will play again or P.T. Barnum will turn over in his grave. Phineas Taylor (P.T.) Barnum (July 5, 1810 – April 7, 1891) was an American showman best remembered for his entertaining hoaxes. He once said, “You can fool some of the people all of the time; you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you can never fool all of the people all of the time.” It was, however, David Hannum who coined the phrase often mistakenly credited to Barnum: “There’s a sucker born every minute.” It was spoken in reference to Barnum’s part in the Cardiff Giant Hoax. (Hannum was referring to the crowds continuing to pay to see Barnum’s exhibit even AFTER both it and Hannum’s original giant had been proven to be fakes.) Barnum, who made his living exploiting the gullible nature of people, never flinched from his stated goal “to put money in his own coffers.” Although famous for brazen self-promotion, he understood his times and profited from them brilliantly. He established “P. T. Barnum’s Grand Traveling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan & Hippodrome”, a traveling amalgamation of circus, menagerie and museum of “freaks”. Barnum would, no doubt, have been a successful NFL owner and would be in the front of the line to hire Chris Henry.By iwilkerson
