What was the first job you ever had, and what did you learn from it?

RON ITZKOWITZ, Union: “Working with my dad at a pawn shop when I was 11 or 12. I learned that life was hard. People have problems, and sometimes the solution was selling things that meant a lot to them.”

DANNY FINLEY, Dayton: “I worked for my dad, who was an electrician. Then when I was 18, I was a machinist apprentice. I enjoyed it. I learned how to get along with people.”

KELLY VERDIER, Dayton: “Picking strawberries in Brown County, Indiana, in 1949 when I was 9 years old. I was paid a nickel a box. My next job was at The Nashville House restaurant in Nashville, Ind. I was very shy, and it was hard for me to talk to people, but I had to in that job. It was very good for improving my self-worth.”
