Of course! And Dayton not getting a shuttle is totally unjustified and insulting to the outstanding job they do there. I have been to the AF Museum several times and will go again. It always a stop for visitors. Indian Lake/Stuttgart

I would not have made a special trip to see it but would have eventually went to see it once the hype died down and the crowds lessened a bit. Now, if it were like some of the Air Force ones that you could walk through, then a special trip would have been in order.

It’s really a shame that the Air Force Museum didn’t get a shuttle. If the Wright Bros.hadn’t invented Flight, there wouldn’t be any Space Flight period. With the history of Flight having started in Dayton, they should have gotten a Space Shuttle! That was an insult to the city of Dayton,Ohio!

We have discussed this and yes we would have made a special trip to see the shuttle. A real shame as the Miami Valley could have used an economical boost.

I think it is a croc that Dayton didn’t get one, for a number of reasons, but I find it bothersome the number of people on here saying that the Wright bros invented flight. They get credit for flying a device that was heavier than air, in the 1780’s, man first flew in hot air balloons, I have to believe that was just as important in many ways. Had we lost out to Houston, or the Space Camps, etc, it would be one thing, but not some of the places that did get them.

No, I would not have made a special trip to see it, but I find it bothersome the number of people on here saying that man first flew in hot air balloons in the 1780s when it’s clear birds, insects, etc were flying eons before us. I have to believe that was just as important in many ways.

Certainly. It is a historical part of our aviation program. People come from all over the world to see the AF museum. But doubtful they will make the extra trip to New York of Los Angeles to see it. Lose/Lose senario.

It’s a moot point, but Dayton is known for the Airforce Museum, and I think a lot of people would have gone out to see it, including school children and people traveling in and around Dayton.

I would make a special trip there if I could go and walk through i, like that have the old air force one but if it was just for you to stand back and see it, I probably wouldn’t care that much.

Yes, definitely,no doubt we would be there! It’s a great place to go with or without grandkids! Would highly recommend it! But definitely disappointed. That would be so far away to have to travel to see one of the shuttles! Slap in the face to the USAF!! What a terrible thing!

I would go because it deserves to be THERE. The closest thing that Los Angeles and New York has to be involved with the space program is freakin’ movies and the NEW York JETS! Houston and Dayton was screwed!

After living in the Dayton area for 49 years, I now live about 5 hours away from the AF Museum, which I visited many times. I would have made a special trip to see the shuttle arrive. To Yep, my neighbor is taking his family- grown kids and grandkids-there in May, staying overnight, shuttle or not, but the shuttle means a lot to the museum, as do the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules. And the Wright Brothers were the first to have powered, controlled, sustained flight. I agree with Rabbit: Dayton and Houston lost out to glitter. A shame that Buckeyes, with the Wrights, John Glenn, and Neil Armstrong as native sons, will not have one of these amazing machines close at hand. Almost as bad as the North Carolina quarter design!

Not a special trip to see it, but probably one after the hoopla died down. Look, it would have been nice if it would have come, but I seriously doubted that Dayton was ever one of the top 4 contenders to begin with. Until or unless this area regains economic vitality that makes it a destination for business reasons, which draws increased population, and in turn more travel, it’s naive to think we’re going to match large metro areas or established tourism spots.

1st: This was not a slap to Dayton, it was a slap to the USAF. Dayton, by itself would never merit consideration. 2nd: I sincerely believe by some oddity that the USAF Museum policy of free admittance worked against it in some ways. Check the admission policies of the facilities that were granted permission to pay a minimum of 26 million for a shuttle to see how many of them charge for entry. The sayerofthings thinks this situation sucks for the USAF, who deserved better from NASA.

Yes, I would have gone to see it, but I go there frequently anyway. I was in the Air Force during the Korean War, so my trip to see the planes is like a visit to see old friends.

I went to the Museum a few months ago with my in laws and we had a wonderful time. So much history, and for the perfect price: FREE! Everyone in the region should check it out.

I have a great deal of respect for the Air Force Museum and would probably go see the Shuttle. My nephew is a Captain in the Air Force and I am so very thankful for him. Obama didn’t even serve and he is over our military. I do not support Obama for 2012! We need an individual that has a solid character and has a balanced plan for our country. The museum is wonderful! Go see it and enjoy the history!

Saying that Dayton deserves a shuttle because of the Wright Brothers is like saying that Wyrzysk Poland deserves one because pf Werner von Braun.

Come on DDN are you the waterboy for Obama, you put up the article about him promising to raise our debt limit, BUT fail to show the hypocracy of Obama the Political HACK, when in2008 he just Ripped Bush to shreds when he was trying to raise it,BRING BACK COMMENT SECTION FOR ALL ARTICLES.

Obama missed his photo op with John Glenn. I don’t think he’s smart enough to be our president. He’s so easily manipulated by his socialists cohorts. This was obviously a political move, another payoff, secret backdoor deal. To the progressives in Ohio who have backed Obama: how do you feel about your President now? You feeling like Rev Wright, pushed aside? Uh huh! As Obama would do, use ‘em and lose ‘em…
