Will moving Cincinnati Reds opening day from Monday to Thursday afternoon affect attendance next year?
Next year, opening day for the Cincinnati Reds will be on a Thursday afternoon, rather than the traditional Monday afternoon that many fans celebrated as a three-day weekend. Will that change hurt attendance?
CHRIS DRAPER, Beavercreek: “Not at all. If you’re a Reds fan, you’re going to make it, no matter what. They can just make it a four-day weekend now. In fact, it might be more popular that way.”
BOB CARSON, Troy: “It’s the opener. People are going to go there no matter what day it is. I’m from Montreal originally, and people would go even on those really cold days in April. It’d be a packed house, regardless.”
ANN THOMPSON, Englewood: “I don’t think so. It’s tradition. Many, many fans for many years have taken their families down for opening day. A Monday or a Thursday won’t matter.”
JIM MOORE, Kettering: “I don’t think it makes much difference. It’s still a weekday.”
KATHY CASTOR, Bellbrook: “No, because they’ll have more interest in attending because of their season this year. I’m hoping to see them in the playoffs.”
MARC CLEEK, Petersburg, Ky.: “I doubt it. Real hard-core fans are still going to go to opening day.”
