What do you think of one airline’s plan to charge $45 for carry-on bags stowed in the overhead bins?
One airline wants to charge $45 for carry-on bags stowed in the overhead bins. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood called the proposal “a bit outrageous.” What do you think?
JOAN KOLBER, Washington Twp.: “I agree with Ray LaHood, especially after reading an article about the airlines not having enough room in the overheads for those who board last.”
MONICA WOODS, Jefferson Twp.: “I would not fly on an airline that did that. That’s ridiculous.”
COURTNEY STAMAN, Fairborn: “With the price of airline tickets already, I always look at driving. This would be one more reason to drive.”
VICKIE VAGEDES, Beavercreek: “Your ticket should reflect the cost. They shouldn’t charge extra.”
DAVID JONES, Sabina: “I think it’s outrageous. I fly maybe twice a year, and usually with something to stow in the overhead. I wouldn’t fly that airline.”
SHANNON MOTZ, Ashland: “I think it’s crazy. When you travel, you’re going to have baggage.”

If you don’t want to pay this fee, don’t fly on this airline. There are other airlines. When was the last time you rode the train, bus or car.All are much cheaper than flying and when you facture in the waiting in lines at the airport, it’s not much longer, depending on how far you travel.

The airlines are trying to make a profit just like any company. With 20 million people out of work,, much less money is being spent on all of the things that we are all use to having. So do the math if we want it,,it is going to cost more. Schools, health insurance you name it,until the people go back to work and our country finally put a stop to allowing companies to import all of the goods that we use to make,, nothing changes,,except the government will keep printing more money,,and some day those countries that hold these loan notes decide to call them in,,well we all are in trouble. The American people need to get off the sidelines,,run for office, elect new people and do whats right to use the monies more wisely. Until that happens expect to pay all kinds of new taxes. Because the companies, government are no different than any of us,, we look everyday,, how to make more money.

I’m all for this fee! It’s morons who jam everything into a “carry-on” that clog up a plane (both getting on and off, as well as the overhead bins) and make travel difficult for the rest of us when fly. I hate these people who do this “jam everything into a bag and stick it in the overhead bin”. If you can’t be without it for a couple days, don’t leave home.

I agree with “I’m 4 it!”. I recently paid $20 to have my bag checked. It took over 30 minutes both to board and, then again, to de-plane with folks trying to stuff bags into the overhead bins. Some passengers had obviously large baggage that then had to be checked anyway. Yet, they did not have to pay the same fee that I did.

It’s a free market (for now) If they lose customers/$$ they’ll do away with the fee. If enough people pay it, they’ll keep it.

I think it is a creeping fee and I think I will pay it if i decide to fly that airline and carry on a bag. Either you pay it or you don’t. Who are you gonna argue with? The stewardess???
