Was star surfer’s death due to drugs or Dengue fever?

Methadone and prescription drugs were found on a nightstand near the body of three-time world champion surfer Andy Iron, according to Honolulu’s Star Advertiser.

Now his death in a Texas hotel earlier this week is being investigated as a possible overdose of methadone.

Methadone is a powerful pain killer also used to treat withdrawal symptoms in patients who are addicted to opiate drugs.

Iron, who was laid over at the airport hotel after withdrawing from a surf contest in Puerto Rico, suffered from dengue fever, a virus spread by mosquitoes.

Just 32, Iron was one of the best known names in surfing.
