No refunds granted for shortened Sheryl Crow concert
No refunds will be given for Colbie Caillat and Sheryl Crow’s weather shortened show at the Fraze Pavilion Tuesday night, June 15.
About an hour into Crow’s performance concertgoers who shelled out $50 to $80 each were asked to leave the Kettering amphitheater because lightning had been seen in the area.
In an email, Fraze General Manager Karen Durham said safety was the top concern and no refunds would be granted for the sold out show.
“The industry standard for determining a ‘show’ is 45 minutes. Over 90 minutes of music was performed by our two artists. Therefore, no refunds will be issued,” Durham wrote.

Fraize and Crow got their money and the fans got two songs from Sheryl - can’t control the weather, but at least offer a discount should she ever return. Talk about poor customer service. Gee, makes me want to come back…

This is the last time I will ever step foot in the Fraze. What was once a community builder, is now a symbol of corporate greed. First the roped off lawn areas, now this. Bye bye Fraze.

Terrible decision. Tickets clearly say “rain or shine” and what would the Fraze really lose if a small refund was offered. They will lose more than that meaning fans with this.

I have never been to Fraze because there is never anyone I want to see. All I have read lately is negativwe comments about the place, so I don’t think I will ever go

It’s the chance you take going to an outdoor concert venue. Should the concert gone on, and someone was struck by lightening, who would be responsible? I think the Fraze is making the right call on cancelling the concert and not refunding. Again, you take your chances with weather at an outdoor venue.

I was at the concert and the opening act played for 40 minutes but Sheryl Crow was only on stage for approximately 35 minutes when the concert was suspended due to the approaching storm. Sheryl Crow did not want to end the show but the Fraze officials did for safety reasons. Once Sheryl left the stage and patrons started to leave the wind started blowing very badly. We barely made it to our car before the rains came. Sheryl stated that she would try and come back but the Fraze probably won’t honor the tickets that we have since they think we saw a “show”. We saw the entire opening act only and not the entire main “show” who people came to see in the first place. I think this decision stinks. Wonder what Sheryl Crow thinks about this decision. She is very fond of playing at the Fraze and cares about her fans and this decision shouldn’t make her happy either.

I understand that you take a risk by going to an outdoor venue. With that said, however, I have sat through much worse at the Fraze when concerts were not ended. People had the ability to leave if they were worried. This was a 15 minutes storm — they could have taken a break and returned. No excuse, but as stated above, the Fraze and Crow got paid. Who cares about the patrons?

One more bruise on the Fraze’s battered reputation. Fantastic opportunities for a place run by morons and sycophants. They hurt the community. Boycott the Fraze!! Their security is a bunch of grey haired geezers who have finally found some authority.

If 45 mintues for a concert is the industry standard then please do not bring in any more opening acts if their time is included in that calculation. C’mon Fraze, do the right thing just once!

In addition to going to a concert or 2 every year at the Fraze, My wife and I used to attend The “Breakfast with the Beatles” show 3 times a summer. The show started at 9:00am ahd we weould get there about 8:00 just to relax, get a good table, read the paper, we would pack a small cooler and we had fun. we did this for 4-5 years evey summer. Then last year we go to the 1st BWB show and now the have every entrance roped off. Now we can’t get in untll 9:30. there were maybe 15 people in line. Also now, now coolers allowed. This isn’t a concert mind you put a show where they play Beatles music for 3 hours. Well that was it for me. Too many rules. heck I took a cooler into the Reds Game a few nights ago.We always bought 2 omlets at the Fraze, along with coffee soda’s etc. The only think in my cooler was water. they are getting to Big for there own good and instituting needless rules. That’s my 2 cents

Did the Fraze move to Oakwood and get all uppity? This is clearly greed on the City of Kettering’s part a partial refund should have been offered or even a Cheryl Crow CD

Oakwood would have done the right thing — given a partial refund or allowed Crow to come back and perform again for the same ticketholders. I’d take uppity over wannabe anyday.

Since when is lightening & heavy rain the Fraze’s fault? And did Ms. Crowe offer to refund her take? Why no dissing of her? And why does she need an opening act? Gee, if she had played her concert there wouldn’t be all this complaining.

Hey Last Straw—you are one smart person. Who knew the tax payer/ticket sales financed Fraze was all about ‘corporate greed???’ (Oh that’s right, Kettering is incorporated.) The Fraze exists as a community nicety, barely breaking even, largely thanks to its many volunteers. It came into being in the first place because a group of caring individuals DONATED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS so that ungrateful know-nothings like yourself would have a first rate place to go near home.

Thought about going but I’m so glad I didn’t. I’ve seen Crow twice at the Fraze. The first (when she was making a DVD) was rockin’ and she played a long time (wanted the video to look good, I suppose). The second time was a snoozefest and this influenced my decision to go this time. Again, glad I made the right decision. And, yes, I think Sheryl and the Fraze should give a partial refund. It’s only fair.

We attended the Gordon Lightfoot concert Thurs & it was terrific! He played for over 1 1/2 hours, no opening act but the artist we paid to see. Our first time at the Fraze & the staff was very helpful & friendly. Great weather, great artist, great concert!

The Fraze and Sheryl knew a storm was coming. So why not skip the opening act and go right to the headliner? By the way, Sheryl did not play for one hour - it was 45 minutes at best! Ticket holders deserve a partial refund.

why not have Sheryl come back for a $5 tuesday? that would at least cover payroll. too much negativety…dayton daily keeps writing such negative and crappy articles, try putting some positivity in them and start seeing how the community responds. everywhere you go there are rules…try following them people and see if you have a better time. alot of the people know the rules but try to see what they can get away with, or start the night off with bad attitudes. i’ve only had good experiences there, and followed the rules, its not that hard!

I was at the concert and was so disappointed when the show was called. Also 90 minutes of music was not played.. Colbie started late, there was a 20 mintue intermission and therefore only an hour of music between the two artist was played.I will not go back to the Fraze. “Rain or Shine” my rear!

Eventually you people will figure out Karen Durham is really up to. She doesn’t like people to listen to these concerts, unless they have a ticket. She is a complete control freak, who will ruin the Fraze. Word will get around that the Fraze (karen) limits the exposure of these acts and they will stop coming. The performers that come here, do not care that people listen outside for free, it gives them more exposure to people, who may not otherwise get to listen to them. The city should allow the people to come back and sit on the outside - maybe open the concession areas to them. You can still make a few bucks, but use some common sense. Otherwise, we’ll get to listen to such quality performers like SINBAD. Although a good person, his time has come and gone. WAKE UP! This arena will die, if Karen stays in her position.

WHAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED is that when the bad weather forecast was happening, Crow should have hit the stage early instead of the opening act. I have seen this at other venues when the act finds out, for whatever reason, that they have to stop early..they just start early.

Ya’all a bunch of whiny people! I was there and Crow played just under an hour. What would have happened she continued to play and someone got struck by lightning? Aluminum stands conduct electricity. You same bunch of hypocrites would be bitching about that. Rain or shine. Go down to Riverbend and see if you get your money back. LOSERS! Stay out of the Fraze so you don’t ruin it for the rest of us.

I was at the concert and beleive me, I would not have paid over 50 dollars for a lawn seat had I known Fraze would call the entire show. I think they could have delayed it, and let her come back out after the storm blew through. I think a good way for the Fraze to please customers (since this show was way overpriced in the first place) is to let us use our Sheryl ticket stubs for a discount on another show at the Fraze. Thats what I would do if I ran the show.

It was a great show untill storm came. As it was, we just got to our van before the heavy rain started. As for Sheryl;she’s a single mom, she needs the money for diapers.

After many years and many shows… i wont be back to the fraze either due to all the stupid management and security decisions i have been through over the years there…like when my 13 yr old type 1 diabetic was stopped at the gate (with both parents with her)and hassled for 10 minutes about her insulin and injection pen… they asked for her ‘diabetic card’…they dont exist…i wanted to see their gestapo card… in all of the commotion, my 19 yr old son was given a wristband that would have allowed him to drink if he wanted. We did not see a ‘show’ by any stretch of the imagination… they should have offered at least a token, maybe free tix to the $5 shows, but NO… simply an ‘fu’ to the paying public…some of these acts need to move to a real venue like the new smaller COVERED venue in Cincinnati. good bye fraze, why dont you just shut that thing down?

They should immediately schedule another concert with Sheryl and give a 40-50% discount to ticket stub holders from this concert. Wow they might even have $100 dollar tickets! But mine would only be $50.

I agree that they should have taken a break and resumed the concert after the storm passed; however I can understand it is a huge liability for the Fraze to stay open during stormy/lightening conditions. I wasn’t at that show but I was at Elvis Costello who thankfully got to play almost an entire concert. He continued to play 2 songs after they cut off his sound, then greeted people by his bus after the show. Bottom line, Elvis Costello rocks. :D

Fraze General Manager Karen Durham is always rude and difficult to work with and I don’t understand why people support this venue.
