Eminem supports gay marriage

Looks like the real Slim Shady has stood up.

Doesn’t seem Eminem is so homophobic after all.

In an New York Times Q&A piece the notorious foul-mouthed rapper voiced his support of gay marriage when asked if he’d like to see it approved in his home state Michigan.

“I think if two people love each other, then what the hell? I think that everyone should have the chance to be equally miserable, if they want,” he said, later adding that it was the new tolerant him.

Eminem has been criticized in the past for lyric bashing homosexuals.

So - artists are all clowns with nothing worthy of saying, but because you aren’t an artist, your words are worthy of being heard? By having actual talent, one automatically disqualifies ones self to having a stance on anything? The guy was asked a question, and he answered it - it isn’t as if he did a benefit concert at a gay rights march. Even if he did - he is an American, and it is his right, talented or not, to state his opinion, just as it is yours, a faceless commenter online to state your opinion - being an artist doesn’t make you less of a human being. Of course, if you are in the crowd trying desperately to strip basic civil rights from the gay community, I guess it isn’t a far stretch for you to want to strip away rights of those who are successful at their art - hell, anyone who isn’t you, is not deserving of the rights you enjoy. You can get married, you can speak your mind and you can make vast generalizations from behind your keyboard. Also - what does your last sentence even mean? Are you nostalgic for a simpler time in which a man who has been raised within black culture is hung ? Where slavery was legal? Honestly, what the hell does that mean? Yes - we have reached a point in our society in which it is fine for a man of any skin color to enjoy any genre of music he so pleases. Is this another freedom that makes you uncomfortable? If all these freedoms are getting in the way of your enjoyment of your America, then might I suggest some of those countries where women are beat in the street for daring to speak their mind - it sounds like more your cup o’ tea.

@James Usually I regard my habit of reading the comments section of an online article as a kind of masochistic tendency of mine. It seems that all of the scum of the earth just come crawling out of the woodworks to post something horribly stupid which I later attempt to forget lest I lose my faith in mankind. Reading your well-written response was an extremely pleasant surprise. Thank you, and major props to you.

He must be partial to the masculine persona. Why is he always holding his side?

Where do you get that he is not homophobic afterall? He never claimed to be homophobic. Maybe you should learn more about your subject matter before making such allegations. Just a thought!

Eminem, the people on TV, the pro-sports players people watch; All contribute less to society than teachers, plumbers, electricians, policemen, etc - yet they get paid 1000X times more for their actions because of the masses who don’t know anybetter. Articles like these which highlight the motives of public figures do nothing but promote this absurdity. They don’t deserve your time, money, or acknowledgement. Eminem is a terrible role-model. Just listen to the lyrics. If everyone acted like what is portrayed within his “art” - we wouldn’t have electricity, food, cars, - none of that. He doesn’t make the world go round. The people who built society do.

What my neighbor does in the privacy of their own home has no effect on me. If two people who happen to be gay are denied the basic human right to marry(wed, civil Union, whatever) that affects all of us. If a few can decide that gays can not marry, what possibly could be next? Maybe next all women will have to wear a burka? Maybe all blacks will have to sit in the front of the bus? How does gay marriage have any affect on yours. I would say adultery has more affect personnaly.

Tara, She probably got that he was homophobic from all of the homophobic stuff he says. You don’t have to SAY you are homophobic TO BE homophobic. Figure it out.

James: “So - artists are all clowns with nothing worthy of saying, but because you aren’t an artist, your words are worthy of being heard?”——-Actually, yes. Free speech is a door which swings both ways. But, since that bothers you, well, he started it.

JAMES:”I guess it isn’t a far stretch for you to want to strip away rights of those who are successful at their art.”——James, take a deep breath, ok? This isn’t a rights issue nor does it have anything to do with art. It has to do with a person of dubious fame using his position to advocate a social agenda. In the words of Frank Zappa, “Shut up and play yer guitar.” We get enough of this stuff from every political pundit on the planet, but, they are drug free, coherent, and have a greater grasp of reality than a stack of amplifiers and screeming teenagers.
