F-bombs galore at the MTV Movie Awards, did it go too far?

A lot of stuff happened during Sunday night’s MTV Music Awards, but nothing was as interesting as the F-bomb count.

They should have renamed the Orbit Gum (“dirty mouth”) sponsored evening “A Night of a Million F-bombs.”

Everyone from Tom Cruise to “Tooth Fairy” star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson joined the bleeping chorus.

“Twilight” star Peter Facinelli took note of all the swearing during his profanity-laced acceptance speech for the movie.

“I have never heard the word F@## used so much in one evening,” he said before using the word a half dozen more times.

Not to be a prude, but I remember when the F-word meant something.

It was not to be thrown out willy-nilly.

Suppose those days are gone.

It was lovely when Ken Jeong used the word during his win for “Best WTF Moment” for his role in “The Hangover,” but come on.

What do you think?

Shows lack of vocabulary at the least. Plus just plain crude.

I have told my children that the number of times the F word is used is inversely proportional to intelligence level.

If you do not give some people a script. They do not know what to say.

The “F word” is an incredibly useful tool of language and there are many times when no other word will suffice. You don’t want to hear it from kids, sure, but to suggest that its usage is tied to intelligence is silly. If you want to find a word where usage and intelligence are connected, may I suggest “disrespect” when used as a verb?

Pharell, you’re a bone head. There is ALWAYS a better word to use for those with a little bit of intelligence. Are there more than 50 words in your vocabulary?

It’s scary to hear adults(?) using that F word, on worldwide TV no less. It’s even scarier when you hear it come out the mouths of your grandchildren!!! Only happened once around me ..they know better now.

Greg: I would appreciate your evidence for a statement like that. Because it’s false. I attended a prestigious liberal arts college (Grinnell) where a majority of the people I met (professors included) used foul language on a regular basis, and these are some of the smartest people I’ve ever met (one foul-mouthed friend is attending Stanford Law). Use of foul language has nothing to do with intelligence.

Totally disrespectful.No class. Enough said.

No class. Period. Ryan-shows how brilliant the professors really are.So smart but never learned any respect.

Vocabulary IS an indicator of intelligence. Using profanity in a public or private forum like the MTV Awards is a demonstration immature peoples’ attempt to look and sound “cool.” Losers.

Yes, Average American, I have a vocabulary of more than fifty words. And I can make statements of opinion without name-calling. I can also accept that other people hold opinions counter to mine and that doesn’t make them idiots. So which one of us is the adult here?

Oh, who cares. It’s not the Disney channel. It’s rock n’ roll. No political correctness required. Cheers!

Don’t know and don’t care because I don’t view or listen to or pay any attention to these media whores and their media awards; much like the normal flyover-country hicks who are sick and tired of their politics and publicity stunts.

I teach my kids that anyone that can’t say anything without the ‘f’ bomb being dropped or is a compulsive “cusser” just can’t think of anything intelligent to say, so this is all they can come up with. I don’t talk like this around my kids/family, and don’t allow it in my home. The world has become so “accepting and lax” that everything is “ok” in the eyes of the world we live in now. No judgements, no values, no morals. This is what our kids are learning from t.v., movies, and unfortunately…the parents.

The “F” word? Oh how cute and funny! However, if any one of these morons had even hinted at using the “N” word, or the “Q” word, or the, (gasp) (shudder), the OTHER “F” word (you know, the 6-letter one with 2 G’s in the middle and a T at the end)their career would have ended last night for all eternity and everybody knows it, including THEM! So much for freedom of speech. LOL

It’s used for shock value to keep people tuned in. The big question is what will the next “sensational” word be once the f-bomb loses luster? PS - Ditto what Greg said!

Never watched the trash show and never will….these self award shows have always been obnoxious. Hollywood is a sewer infested with roaches, maggots, and attorneys.

The F word is not what is used to be. It does not have the old shock value and so people have become desensitized to the use of the word. It is fast becomming mainstream language.

I’m over 14 years of age and could care less what happens on MTV. I also have an IQ greater than the number of digits on both hands and could care less what happens on Fox News. But let’s bite into some real meat….A bleeped F-word causes all this stir but war dead images from Afghanistan shown on Fox news is just a day at the office….THAT’s what’s offensive!

By Average American

June 8, 2010 2:57 PM | Link to this

MAx, these blogs are often times dedicated to more mundane topics than the War in Afghanistan. That doesn’t mean dead soldiers are just another day at the office. By your own admission, your IQ hovers somewhere just above 10. That’s awesome! You would think someone with that much mental horsepower could stay on topic … and Pharell, I’m the adult because I can formulate an entire sentence without the “f” word, and you consider it part of everyday speech. Are you a school teacher? Perhaps . . Liberal Arts?

By Ha Ha

June 8, 2010 3:00 PM | Link to this

There is no such thing as a prestigious Liberal Arts College, and definitely no such thing as an intelligent graduate from one. If you want to know how great Grinnell is, just ask a graduate, they will tell you. NO ONE else will. They are a derivative of Phoenix Online?

At least they are truthful as to who they are. Unlike the religious right that puts down behavior like this in public but behind closed doors are nothing but cussers, cheaters, and pedophiles

Foul language may not indicate a lack of intelligence, but it certainly indicates a lack of manners and morals. I quit watching shows like MTV awards a long time ago.

It’s just a bunch of Hollywood and entertainment nit-wits a.k.a. the scum of the earth.
