Dick Clark’s ‘Rockin’ Eve’ days might be numbered
Everyone knows that New Year’s Eve is pretty blah without the world’s oldest teenager.
There might be blah days ahead.
Dick Clark, who recently celebrated his 80th b-day, will once again help Ryan Seacrest and Fergie usher in the New Year during ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2010,” according to USA Today.
Clark, who still suffers some effects of a stroke in 2004, said the event remains exciting, but he doesn’t know if he’ll be back to help host the show next year.
“I still haven’t made up my mind. I still enjoy the honor of sharing in so many people’s annual celebration. I wish my delivery was crisp and clean, but due to my stroke I’m happy that Ryan Seacrest now carries the heavier load,” he told the newspaper.

I loved Dick Clark and American Bandstand when I was younger and the ball drop, etc. etc. But the last few years have been brutal, excruciating and downright shameful on his families part. It has to stop, just make an appearance and don’t say anything. Not being mean here either.

Fatty’s party was Labor Day weekend, but I appreciate the reference even if it’s thoroughly twisted.

I agree. DC should make an appearance. He has a bunch of difficulty speaking, and it is difficult to listen to him. This should be kept to a minimum imo.

I still remember the first time I heard someone use the phrase “All good things must come to an end” and I remember how sad it made me when I heard it and realized how true it was then, and now. I have fond memories of seeing my older sister watch American Bandstand and watching Dick Clark through the years. It’s time now…he deserves a rest…Thanks Dick

I wish Sean Hannity or Rush would do the countdown show - then we would get the true story behind New Years Day. I hate all the liberal bias in mainstream media.

I PERSONALLY THINK IT IS AN HONOR TO STILL HAVE DC TO COME AND TRY TO DO WHAT HE HAS ALLWAYS DONE. WITH THE HELP OF RYAN AND FERGIE. JUST TRY TO KEEP HIM WARM WE CAN ALL SEE WHEN THE BALL DROPS THEY DON’T NEED TO TELL US HAPPY NEW YEAR IN 2010

I think Dick Clark should be able to do and SPEAK on the show as he wishes. It’s a New Year’s Eve tradition and it is his show. Too bad that some people have a problem with looking at or listening to a person who has a disability. Maybe he doesn’t like to listen to the sound of your whiney voice.

Actually it is his show, as he does produce it, and ABC pays him a lot of monmey to do so. Dick Clark could take his show where he pleased.

In response to today’s article refering to celebrities as idols, the press has put them in this position. None of them are worthy to worship. Only our Lord and Savior has this position. If everything they did wasn’t glorified, things would soon fade out.

None of us want to grow old and be “discarded”, but in this case-it’s time for DC to let some others take over.It has nothing to do with understanding him, it has to do with keeping things up to date and relavent. Bob Barker knew when to go, and his old show is still thriving. The new years even show is dwindling…in part due to Dick Clark.

You people are so cruel. What if something had happened to you (God forbid) and you were told that you can’t do that anymore. How would you feel? If it’s what he enjoys, then leave him alone. Or turn the channel. You have many options!

It is called retirement. The body gets old even though the spirit is able. Rocking at 80 is done in a chair. He has had a great run. No one wants to get old, to have our bodies age, systems break down. We want to be young forever. Pass the baton…

Even though Dick Clark has had issues with his speaking, this “Rockin New Year’s Eve Show” is very important to him. As he has saluted us over the years, I feel we should salute back..If he wants to continue with this, then he should and with our support.

Dick Clark has passed the baton, Ryan Seacrest and Fergie are the hosts. Clark is just making an appearance, which is fine by me. Let’s enjoy him while we still can, even at a diminished capacity. Some people have serious anger issues here.

I’m sick and tired of posters politicizing entertainment blogs- LEAVE POLITICS OUT, DO YOU POSTERS UNDERSTAND THAT?!! Getting back on topic, the effects of Dick Clark’s stroke from a several years ago have had an impact on him. He’s now 80, and as much as I hate to say this, it’s time for him to retire and to name a successor. I know Regis had to substitute for Dick because of his stroke, years ago, but it’s time for a successor to be named. What about Kerri Kasem? She could be Dick’s successor. Right now, it’s a wait and see mode.

I love DC and have watched his NYE special for as long as I can remember. I feel sad for him, but applaud him at the same time for wanting to hang on so badly. It’s HIS show, that HE produces. Let him do as he wishes.

Why are some people so cruel? Dick Clark is a legend. He may have had a stoke but he still knows whats going on, and he should be able to make an appearance every new years eve for as long as he wants to. You go Dick!!! Hope to see you around for many more years.

I applaud Dick Clark for hosting this every year especially after having his stroke. I wish they had better bands though. It seems all they have are bands that no one has heard of and they suck. The last decent band they had was New Years Eve 1993 when they had Kiss sing Rock N Roll All Night after Auld Lang Syne.

I’ve been watching DC for awhile (32) - but seriously, I had a hard time understanding some parts. It just seemed like a blur, couldn’t even count down properly. It’s time to retire DC. We’ve enjoyed your company during this time, but honestly, go out in style…

Stroke or no stroke, Dick Clark still refuses to release his productions to video, including American Bandstand, Happening and Where the Action is. The people who would enjoy this are already at least in their 40 - if this goes on much longer, the fans will all be dead.

Dick Clark is an icon. We all get older and I feel that he has earned the right to make his own decision if he wants to continue. Disablitiy or not, its his choice. I have watched him “drop” the ball for 50 plus years. Let him decide.

My opinion is if Dick Clark wants to leave then he should be able to leave. I do think tho because Dick Clark made the Rockin Eve what it is…it should still have his name even if he isn’t the host.

I didn’t have a problem with Dick Clark but I can’t understand why he thinks he needs to do it anymore. It’s awkward. I thought the entertainment was horrible and Jennifer Lopez’s costume was the ugliest thing I’ve seen anyone wear on tv. Fox had the best NYE show. CNN’s coverage was really bad. Kathie Griffin and Anderson Cooper just laughed at each other all night. They weren’t funny. There’s no class anymore. It’s all trashy.
