Skyline? White Castle? For Valentine’s Day? Really?
Last week our food writer, Teri Horsley, wrote a fun piece about “romantic” dining options where you might not expect them: At fast-food places like White Castle and Skyline.
And all I can think is “Uh … really?”
I hate to be a killjoy. And I’ve got nothing against White Castle or Skyline. I like to eat at both places, but neither of them strikes me as particularly romantic.
I’m not saying a Valentine’s Day date has to be at any ritzy place that costs $40 a plate. But eating at a place that costs $5 or $10 a plate seems chintzy to me. To, me a Valentine’s Day fast food dinner only flies if you met at the place, or if you both work there. And if you both work there, I’d be willing to bet you’re anxious to eat someone else. If any girl I dated tried to take me to Skyline or White Castle for Valentine’s Day, that relationship will be on the rocks REAL quick.
But that’s just me. So let me ask you: What would you think if your date took you to a fast-food place for Valentine’s Day? And what unusual Valentine’s Day dates have you had?

I don’t see anything wrong with it. It’s cute and fun. My boyfriend is probably going to do that. Love is nothing about expensive dining or money. Plus, if you’ve been together a while, and are practically married, it’s different. Plus, valentines day is another stupid hallmark holiday. I am not expecting anything from my boyfriend. I love him equal everyday. Super big valentines dates doesn’t change that. Plus, we have our own nights and it’s always perfect. Ladies: don’t show men that you need to be spoil or need fancy things. Your significant other will love you just the same :)

It’s more about the company than the cost of the meal!

I’d be anxious to eat someone else if they were extra yummy.

My husband and I use to always go out for a very nice dinner on Valentine’s Day, but now we just go pick up Chinese food or burgers and catch up on DVD’s we got as Christmas gifts. We have a great evening. We started doing this because all the best restaurants are crowded and you have to wait over an hour or more to be seated, just to have the waitstaff start offering you a box and the check 5 minutes after your food is placed on the table. I do not find that “romantic” at all. Many times we go out to eat on Feb. 15. Low crowds and no one rushing you to eat quickly.
