Our “retro” drive-in, the Holiday
I’ve been to the Holiday Auto Theatre drive-in, just outside of Hamilton a number of times now, particularly because it’s “retro” - and I’m not just referring to the fact that it’s a drive-in.
While the Holiday shows mostly current movies, every once in awhile they reach into the vault and play something older. This past weekend, they did a Disney double - Toy Story 3, plus The Absent-Minded Professor - the ORIGINAL 1961 movie with Fred MacMurray, not the mediocre Flubber with Robin Williams from 1997.
I had intended to go Sunday night, but my schedule did not allow it. However, I have been to some of their other retro bookings. Last year I went when they played District 9, followed by a beautiful print of the original Jaws. Then the first time I went was a couple of years ago, when they played a holiday double of It’s a Wonderful Life, followed by White Christmas. I’m a sucker for the classics, so I find the retro bookings great fun.
Have you ever been to any of the Holiday’s “retro” bookings? What do you think of the drive in in general?
