Czech artist to speak at Miami University

Dušan Zahoranský, visiting artist and professor from the University of West Bohemia in Pilzen, Czech Republic, will speak at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in Room 100 of the art building at Miami University.

“Storytellers,” a site-specific installation by Zahoranský, will be exhibited Feb. 9-13 at Miami’s Hiestand Galleries, School of Fine Arts. Zahoranský will work with students to construct the digital display. His talk and residency is sponsored by the art department’s visiting artist fund and the office of international studies’ international visiting scholar exchanges fund.

Miami Chamber Orchestra plans Feb. 12 concert

Miami University presents the Miami Chamber Orchestra, performing at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in Hall Auditorium. The ensemble is conducted by and includes Miami students performing with music faculty. This performance includes music faculty member performers Michèle Gingras, clarinet; Andrea Ridilla, oboe; Eric Varner, bassoon; Robert Thomas, piano; and James Olcott, trumpet on the program.

The repertoire will feature “Gypsy Love” from El Amor Brujo by Manuel de Falla with Miami senior music performance major Alicia Falcon as mezzo soprano soloist and the world premiere of Klezmer Fantasy for clarinet and strings by Adam Levowitz with professor of music Michèle Gingras as soloist. Also on the program is Rossini’s Overture to La Scala di Seta and Valse Triste by Sibelius.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 529-3014.

Murder mystery needs victims, suspects

Auditions for the murder mystery, “Death and Taxes” will be 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 14, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 6329 Tylersville Rd, West Chester.

Parts available for five men and seven women, open to high school age and older.

You will read from the script. Please bring conflict schedule.

The play will be presented at the church May 8-9.
