Nine seek to represent Ohio’s 55th House District
Nine people are seeking the Butler County Republican Party’s recommendation to succeed Bill Coley, who today was sworn in as the next senator for Ohio’s 4th Senate District.
The Butler County GOP will meet in a private meeting of the Executive Committee at 6:30 p.m. June 2 at the Ronald Reagan Lodge at VOA Park in West Chester Twp. to make a recommendation. Only those Executive Committee members that reside in the 55th House District will vote in the recommendation process.
The party will accept applications — which requires a $125 screening fee — of those residents in the 55th House District who’d like to serve the remainder of Coley’s term, which ends in December 2012.
Coley moved to the state senate after being appointed by the Ohio Senate Republican Caucus to fill the remainder of Gary Cates’ seat. Cates left on Monday to become the senior vice chancellor on the Ohio Board of Regents.
The GOP’s recommendation will be given to the Ohio House Republican Caucus, which will make the appointment.
Of those who are seeking the appointment:
Margy Conditt of Liberty Twp.
Mark Haverkos of West Chester Twp.
Bruce Jones of West Chester Twp.
Candice Keller of Middletown
Liberty Twp. Trustee Christine Matacic
Doug Mink of West Chester Twp.
George Nafziger of West Chester Twp.
West Chester Twp. Trustee Lee Wong
Burt Young of West Chester Twp.

WOW, a list of folks that either have no community involvment or don’t have any private business experience. Where is a complete candidate? Most I see are one or two issue candidates. Haverkos & Matacic bend in the wind on what they think people want to hear

They might appoint Haverkos this time. The local officials would sure like to get him and his meddling nonsense out of here.

Once this is over with Haverkos will file to run for the GOP nomination for president.
