Yager Stadium annexed
Yager Stadium is now in the city of Oxford following the Butler County Commission’s annexation approval of 47 acres of Miami University-owned property.
Oxford City Council previously adopted legislation stating it would accept the annexation request filed by the university if approved by the county commission. The land had sat in Oxford Twp. until Monday when the annexation became effective immediately after the unanimous county commission vote, said Human Resources Director and commission legal counsel Gary Sheets.
As reported by the Oxford Press in December, the annexation avoided Oxford having to refund Miami employees that worked on the annexed property. The city had assessed income taxes, according to City Manager Doug Elliott.
Oxford’s income tax rate is 2 percent.
Oxford Twp. will not lose any revenue since Miami University is a tax-exempt entity.
