Is there surprise with Jewett’s resignation
We reported earlier Thursday morning that Butler County Administrator Bruce Jewett is resigning in a few weeks to take over the President/CEO post with the Butler County United Way.
Jewett got to the point in his lead paragraph of his letter of resignation: “It is with some mixed feelings that I, announce my upcoming retirement from public service. I have certainly appreciated these last 13 years, during which time you and other Commissioners have afforded me the opportunity to serve the citizens of Butler County. It has been service I never took for granted, and always felt privileged to be able to offer.”
Jewett told me he will leave his role as Butler County Administrator on May 31 — though in his letter of resignation he stated his last day will be June 3 — and take over the Butler County executive director position on June 6.
Jewett had served on the United Way Board of Trustees for more than 10 years, the last two as the board’s chairman.
“I feel a deep commitment to the mission of the Butler County United Way, and look forward to continuing collaborative relationships with other private non-profits and public agencies toward the organization’s two ends: helping Butler County youth become successful adults, and helping Butler County families achieve self-sufficiency.”
Butler County Commission Chuck Furmon said the board will need to talk in executive session about finding a new county administrator. Furmon said at the end of the meeting Thursday morning: “It’s with mixed feelings that we accept the letter we received this morning from Bruce Jewett announcing his retirement from public service. We appreciate very much Bruce the job that you have done. You jumped in at a very tough time and you’ve done a lot with the position, and we do appreciate it.”

No surprise here. By the way, what was the name of that fellow Dixon wanted for this job back in December?

How many Administrators has the Little Emperor Don Dixon ran off now? Can anyone work with this guy?

Bruce Jewett was too good a man to put up with the nonsense and dysfunction of this county commission. Good luck Bruce.

No surprise from me, I can’t believe he or anyone stayed on this long after the backroom deal making of Carpenter and Dixon. No job is worth the insults and backbiting of those two commissioners toward the county employees.

Congratulations Bruce, considering you were destined to be terminated January 1. You deserve much better. Pete and Tonyia, can you be far behind?

I look at how many department heads and administrators have left the county in the last four years and all the experience they had and I’m not suprised the mess the county government is in.

Under Don Dixon the county is averaging a new county administrator every twelve months.

My hope is that these individuals that are left will sue these two Commissioners for what they have been through. After all, it has all been documented in the media.

Well, whoever they choose it probably won’t be a lady in her 50’s….hmmmmm…or will it? Maybe they can throw one the several female managers who are suing for sex discrimination a bone and get one of the lawsuits withdrawn. After all the county administrator is a just glorified secretary, right?

How sexist is By Whatever’s statement that secretarial work is for women! It wasn’t until the early 1900’s that women were allowed to perform administrative duties. Good luck, Bruce, I hope you go into United Way and make it everything it was and is meant to be!

There is only one requirement for the county administrator’s position. The administrator must always remember the proper response to any question or demand is “Yes Commissioner Dixon, that is a great idea, I’ll get it done before the day is over”.

Really Charlie, as bad as that? Do tell more. Who else has left in the past four years and what departments were they over? Some of us are new to these here parts and want to know more. Good Luck Jewett, seems like you got the run around. You may be better off anyhow.
