Want to buy a dump truck?
The Butler County Engineer’s Office got the OK Thursday of the county commissioners to put a few items up for auction on govdeals.com.
This will be the second time this year the engineer’s office will put items up for the online auction site. The first time was on Jan. 31: two 10-foot GledHill snow plows and a 13-foot Swenson front discharge V-Box.
The two snow plows opened at $200 each and the V-Box opened for $500. The snow plows sold for $505 each and the V-Box sold for 6,025.
Items for up on the virtual auction block include:
A 13-foot Swenson front discharge V-Box. This is the storage container for salt on the trucks. This edition is obsolete. Opening bid will be $2,000.
A 1991 International dump truck. Opening bid will be $2,000.
A 10-foot GledHill snow plow. This attaches to the front of a truck. The county uses a different brand. Opening bid will be $200.
Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens said there’s no specific set time of year he puts items no longer needed up for auction. It’s also not yet known when they’ll appear on GovDeals.com.
“It’s just a matter of when we get some items we need to get rid of,” Wilkens said.
The items will likely sell at a higher price online than in a traditional auction, Wilkens said. The more people that can bid on the items, the higher the price can go.
For example, on November 18, Wilkens put a 1993 International truck up for bid. The starting bid was $500. One hundred and nine bids later, it sold for $6,900.
Another example, on April 22, Wilkens put a 1989 Chevy C2500 up for bid. That sold for $1,505 after 23 bids were made. Its opening bid was $500.
Since October 2007, 44 lots have went up for bid. The starting bids totaled $5,595. The total that all items sold for: $47,921.99.
“You just never know,” Wilkens said about how much these three items could sell for.
