State auditor won’t comment

In an attempt to find out if Butler County Auditor Roger Reynold’s claim that having a clerk of courts employee working out of the Butler County Commission office — yet still paid by the Clerk’s office — could be a state audit finding — it’s in conclusive.

For background, Butler County Commissioner Cindy Carpenter apparently had two employees from the Clerk of Courts, both paid out of the title fund, working on the county budget as she was set to assume office. This was done before and after the former clerk of courts took office.

They were working on the budget with Carpenter — who called on others from a budget work group — to offer guidance, advice and suggestions.

And now Reynolds is claiming this could be a finding if the Auditor of State Dave Yost’s office decides to investigate. Reynolds’ reasoning is if they are paid out of a certain fund, then they should be doing work associated with that fund. In other words, if the employees are paid from the title fund, then they should be doing title work.

Now it turns out one of the employees who volunteered to help, so it really only effects one employee.

And as stated previously in this posting, it is inconclusive if a state audit will find the county at fault. According to the Mary Amos Augsburger, the state auditor’s director of policy and public affairs, the office won’t comment on any potential audit or possible scenarios. She said comments are only made until after an audit is conducted and findings are released.

If Carpenter uses “Boss Hog” style politics, Harris is her “Rosco”. An investigation needs to be made not only on this issue, but the fact that Harris was in charge of her election fund and helped Carpenter run her Commissioner campaign while on county time. An audit needs to be done on county phone records in the Clerks office, computers and if you just ask employees at the Clerks office, you will find out the the list of non Clerk related duties they were instructed to do. We pay taxes, we have a right to know what our money is really paying for.

Hey Roger, who made you king of Butler County? You hire your old boss for to much money and that is OK. Cindy does some much needed work on the County budget and she needs an audit. Why don’t you take care of your own business and quit playing politics!!!!!!

I am no fan of Carpenter’s But Oh, please now Roger Reynolds is going to investigate an issue that is NONE of his business! Roger is so holy and pure (as he would have the public believe), I think this is a payback because Cindy trumped his girlfriend Nancy for Commissioner.

These are government offices, not family businesses, as many elected officials in these parts seem to think. This issue IS Reynolds business, and it should be the concern of every taxpayer in Butler County. Someone needs to hold people accountable. Too many politicians act as though they don’t have to answer to anyone.
