Scandals conversation
Cindy Carpenter said she’s upset of the recent scandals in recent years, including the nepotism and Dynus issues. She did not, however, mention her relationship with former Commissioner Mike Fox.
“It’s disturbing,” she said.
Butch Hubble asked: “You were present when these scandals where taking place?”
Carpenter: “We do not have any overlapping duties. It’s almost engraved in stone.”
Hubble: “Are you supported by the same people who are now indicted?”
Carpenter: “I did not support any of the wrong-doings.”

We have had more than our share of scandals in the past few years. Kay Rogers is awaiting sentencing for her part in the Dynus scandal where over $4 million dollars was illegally borrowed in the county’s name and the money is still unaccounted for. Former county administrator, Derick Conklin, orchestrated his own retirement buy out, then tried to set the same thing up for his wife - giving the couple over $500,000 in county money. Former Treasurer, Carole Mosketti, plead to reduced charge for hiring her grand-daughter, an offense that is clearly identified by law. In the wake of her improprieties, Nancy Nix stepped in the unexpired term. Mike Fox has been indicted for bribery charges, among others, for accepting payments of over $460,000 from Rob Schuler, who was involved in the county fiber optic system. He is awaiting trial in federal court. Many questions have been raised about county contracts going out with bid or selecting bids that were much higher than the going rate. Expensive county buildings have been built with no apparent confirmation that future revenues can cover these costs. The FBI was engaged in a joint investigation with other law enforcement agencies over these issues. Here is my conclusion: These concerns and/or scandals will play out. We need to let them play out, then place blame on the responsible parties.

If we’re talking about improprieties…how about the new hire? This bunch of Butler County Commissioners just brought Kay Rogers’ brother to work in the Commissioners office. He’s supposed to be helping them sort out the County’s financial problems. Am I the only one who sees something wrong here?

Having been with the county to long to quit, I wouldnt mind being bought out like the Conklins.Get me a nice little house in Florida to raise my dogs in. Since we gave all the countys money to the Conklins lets lay off a few of the cops with pregnant wifes. Sounds like there are some smart people in charge.

She beat around the question! This lady doesn’t know how to be up front. Fox helped on her campaign in May. He’s the only reason she is in office and he taught her well, when all else fails lie. Her “relationship” with him is scandal itself. She is a walking time bomb! If the GOP didn’t look bad already, wait until she’s in charge.

I’ve got to say this, in talking about budgets and money, and everything that the county does or does not have. The one thing that they can’t afford to go “cheap” on is the protection off the citizens. Meaning LAW ENFORCEMENT, and JAIL personnel. What the hell are they thinking in laying off the people they need the most? And for Middletown Jail? We won’t even go there. Overworked, understaffed, to the point of exahustion. I hope the wonderful city manager reads this stuff. If she’s not, she needs to.
