Strickland commends small business jobs and credit act

On Monday, Gov. Ted Strickland “commended” President Obama when he signed the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act into law. He said the act “will help Ohio small businesses expand and create new jobs.”

“In order to build Ohio’s economy from the ground up we must unleash our entrepreneurs to innovate and create jobs. That’s why I fought hard during this past year to urge this bill’s passage,” Strickland said.

According to a press release, the bill - which was passed earlier this month - includes eight new tax cuts and extends SBA lending, which apparently helps Ohio small businesses and manufacturers hire new workers, expand and received loans and credit needed for growth.

“We’re keeping taxes low and cutting red tape to make it easier for small businesses to thrive. We’ve formed a statewide public-private lending partnership, the Ohio Huntington Business Loan Program,” Strickland said. “And we are establishing a new small business lending initiative that will help small businesses find the capital they need.”

The bill was supported by Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, Sent. George Voinovich, R-Ohio.

Have you read the bill? Here’s an overview from the United States Senate Committee on Finance.

Will this bill help Ohio create jobs? Will it help get the state on the right track?

The passing of this legislation to help small businesses was achieved in spite of huge opposition from Republicans. Boehner voted against it. But the bill was supported by BOTH our Ohio Senators. This should be front page news. Why bury the bill’s passing in a blog with a snide and suspicious tone? Is this good journalism?
