Sheriff Jones, back on Fox News, claims to deport 30 immigrants a week

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones is well on his way to becoming a Fox News contributor. He made an appearance on Greta Van Susteren’s show a couple days ago to talk about the new secure communities program that fingerprints illegal immigrants.

Here’s a clip from Fox News:

Note this exchange at the end (full transcript):

JONES: Basically, the way I understand it, it’s people that have a criminal history. And that’s what we’re interested in. We deport from my jail in Butler County roughly 30 a week from all over the world. We have 287-G here in Butler County in my county. There’s five counties in Ohio that have this new Secure Communities system. And it’s been in operation for approximately three weeks.

VAN SUSTEREN: Did you say that you deport 30 a month? Did I get — did I hear that correctly?

JONES: No. No, you — you got it wrong. It’s 30 a week.

VAN SUSTEREN: Thirty a week?

JONES: This is in Ohio.

VAN SUSTEREN: You — you — you in your county do 30 a week in Ohio?

JONES: Yes, in Ohio. The only border we’re with is with Canada, but we’re still a border state. And it’s — we hold prisoners for ICE. And we’re between Cincinnati and Dayton, Greta, and our population in our county is 350,000. And we’re the 8th largest of 88 counties in Ohio. Cuyahoga County is Cleveland, which is the largest county in the state of Ohio.

As we reported previously, Jones does not deport 30 immigrants a week from Butler County. Immigration and Customs Enforcement may be deporting that many immigrants who are held at the county jail through a contract with ICE, but they come from all over the country.

Do you believe Jones’ claim of deporting 30 a week inflates the perception of the number of illegal immigrants being arrested in Butler County?

Inflating perception is what Jones is all about. Jones is more of the marketing director for the Butler County Residence Inn, than he is the Sheriff of the Butler County Jail.

The police Chief in Cincinnati recently said that if a law enforcement officer lies he should be fired. I agree and the voters need to fire Jones the next election. If he is misrepresenting the facts on this what else is he misleading us on? Maybe his budget mess? I don’t trust anything this man says anymore.

I believe it inflates Spotlights ego. Clearly the man struggles with the truth, and will say anything that enhances him with the idiots who support him.

Does the sheriff not realize that making statements like this on a national stage is just inviting the US Justice Department to come in here and investigate him? If he’s arresting and deporting that many Hispanics then he is certainly profiling.

Josh, the question should be; Does Jones make Butler County voters look stupid with his untruthful statements? The answer YES

and another thing on they come over here and work illegally and send their money back home and double it then 6 months later they go back to mexico and live good. don’t everyone forget the drugs they bring with them also wait till it is one of your kids that get the drugs and you go to their funeral. think about it people they do not belong here we couldn’t go over there without showing a passport or any documents and work and get everything they get here for free and we can’t send money from there to here and double our money

Let’s not forget that these people get arrested for some other reason, other than being an ILLEGAL immigrant. They are breaking OUR laws and need to go. If they were LEGAL immigrants - they would simply serve time for their crime, and go back to living in the USA. If Jones is lying - we should vote someone else into office. Agreed. However people that are here ILLEGALLY should be sent packing as well.

Sweigart - Instead of asking readers “Do you believe Jones’ claim of deporting 30 a week inflates the perception of the number of illegal immigrants being arrested in Butler County?” please do your job and have Jones quantify it better for you. The real question is; if Jones were allowed to round them up (including going after employers and people who harbor them) how many could he deport? Given the estimated number of illegal aliens who either reside, work and/or travel within Butler County alone, 30 is likely very low.

Good grief. There he goes again, using his bad grammar, bloating facts to look macho. I am glad to say I did NOT vote for this gas bag. I hope he does get investigated for his exaggerations. He is an embarrassment to Butler County. Of course, SW Ohio has John Boehner to make us just as proud. My, my.

Sure enough, Jones thinks Ohio borders Canada. Maybe he should visit the states northern border instead of traveling to Arizona. It might also be a good idea for him to seek some mental health professional to help him with the constant need to exagerate on every topic that comes up and his need for attention. Clearly the man has some issues.

Ohio DOES border Canada in the middle of Lake Erie. Get a map and look at it. On that fact, Jones is correct. But, it has nothing to do with Mexicans being deported, unless they are heading to Canada across Lake Erie.

Sweigart, do your job and confirm this claim that Jones deports 30 a week. I can tell you they are not fresh arrest of illegals, these are federal inmates that ICE deports, not the sheriff. I can give you some factual numbers, and that is 3, the number of deputies he now has working a shift on the road patrol. Jones if you read this, why don’t you stick to fixing the problems of your office than getting on television, it is a sinking ship and you are taking it down. You can deport 4 million immigrants, and you still are going to be remembered as quite possibly the worst sheriff to ever hold office in this county.

Technically, Ohio does share a border with Canada. The State line extends nnw off of the tip of north Bass Island. The mounties will take your boat if you float across and fish without a Canadian License. Perhaps the Sheriff would like to become a pirate of the Ohio/Butler County Navy and stop folks who no habla english from swimming across. Butler County had one Sheriff go to prison for illegal acts maybe a second will follow!

Apparently there are a number of Obama idiots who blog here. This is a country of laws, for the people and by the people. People from Mexico should get in line to come into this country like all before. The Sheriff is correct in his stance and should be praised for his work. Truly the most qualified Sheriff ever in Butler County

Its politics boys and girls and yes he should worry about his dept. instead of grand standing. The illegals are brought in and housed at the butler county jail and the county gets paid for it. Yes we as tax payers pay for there stay (fed money} and we still are paying on the jail that they had to have because of over crowding. The county has very few of its own illegals housed at the jail, those people are still in our county unchecked because I.C.E. just drops the illegals off for housing. I.C.E. does the deportation not the sheriffs office.

He is full of air, check the inmate files on line and see how many on in the jail and being held for ICE, and when a real criminal needs to be incarcerated they say that they have no room. Jones needs to be brought up on charges and relieved of his Office.

Want to stop illegals from coming here and taking our jobs and bankrupting our heath care. Lock up the the greedy employers that run help wanted adds in Mexico papers. I have see these adds. But don’t ask Jones. He spins, side steps, and deflects the issue. Like the old saying ” want to get to the truth? follow the money.”

I firmly believe that any person who is arrested for any crime against humanity, like theft, murder, drug affiliation etc. or that he or she is here illegally should immediatly be deported to whatever port from which they came. For those who disagree, please feel free to to join them. I can assure you that you will not be missed. Sincerly, Jerry Hatton p.s I firmly believe that asking for PROPER I.D.is not profiling. Must I remind you again that LEGAlS do not have that problem. Its called securing our nation from those undesireables who need not be here,no matter from whatever port they come from.

Federal Immigration and Nationality Act Section 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)(b)(iii) State and local law enforcement officials have the general power to investigate and arrest violators of federal immigration statutes without prior INS knowledge or approval, as long as they are authorized to do so by state law. There is no extant federal limitation on this authority. The 1996 immigration control legislation passed by Congress was intended to encourage states and local agencies to participate in the process of enforcing federal immigration laws. Immigration officers and local law enforcement officers may detain an individual for a brief warrantless interrogation where circumstances create a reasonable suspicion that the individual is illegally present in the U.S. Specific facts constituting a reasonable suspicion include evasive, nervous, or erratic behavior; dress or speech indicating foreign citizenship; and presence in an area known to contain a concentration of illegal aliens

There is a correct way to enter the U.S. Jumping a fence, working for pennies on the dollar, living 25 to 30 per apartment, then depending on our welfare system is not it. We, as taxpayers are having a hard enough time, watching folks here beat the system with bogus claims from social security and the free goodies that are SUPPOSED to be for those who need it and not those who fear working for a living. Sure, it’s hard. But, watching this crap and then watching the system get beaten really is hard to endure. How about this-Obama hired a new crew to oversee the IRS, why don’t they do a complete review of our social security system, and force those who jump our fences to enter the correct way. You bet-send them back-asap. We need more sheriff Jones.

Excuse me but I am pretty sure that most hispanics who live and work here right now, whether legal or not contribute more than most of our population. I have never seen a HIspanic use food stamps or use governement money to go buy fast food. I get tips off of food stamps in the restaurant where I work yet no one seems to care. I’m the one paying for these people to eat, I’m even the one paying for my tip. I have never ever in all my life seen a hispanic person on welfare. I see more of another race stealing money from all the hard working people including mexicans. Sorry none of you people who’s heads are so up your butts that you can not see any other person’s point of view. You be the one to sit there and watch while you can not help or feed your family when just over there there is food and a good life for them. Wouldn’t you all want the best for your family? Or are you just going to stick with what you are given while your family gets sicker and sicker. Mexico is like the hood only its everywhere. You people have no idea.
