Coverage of the Lincoln Day dinner

From this story:

About 500 people attended the Butler County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner, featuring Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor.

And what those in attendance heard Friday night, April 23 at the Savannah Center was an outline of the campaign platform Taylor and former U.S. Rep. John Kasich, the GOP’s respective candidates for lieutenant governor and governor this fall, plan to stress in the coming months.

Taylor said if elected she and Kasich will make Ohio a better place for residents and business owners by putting the unemployed back to work, reducing the state’s debt and lowering workers’ compensation costs.

“John Kasich will revive the Ohio economy and remove obstacles that prevent businesses from creating jobs,” she said.

Taylor said under Gov. Ted Strickland’s administration the unemployment rate has soared to 11 percent with more than 400,000 residents unemployed and 13 percent of Ohioans living in poverty.

“A better future is not automatic,” Taylor said.

She told local party members the campaign needs their help to succeed.

“I want to be a part of the team that would help get Ohio back on track … John Kasich is better prepared than our current governor,” Taylor said.

After Taylor’s speech, Ralph Rogan “Pat” Carruthers was awarded one of several Republican volunteer awards for his service.

“I’m honored. I am very honored,” Carruthers said.

Carruthers, along with his late wife, Donna, gave community organizations and businesses millions of dollars in recent years, resulting in such facilities as the Carruthers Arts Technology Center at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts and the Donna Y. Carruthers Cardiovascular Services Suite at The Fort Hamilton Hospital.

Other local Republicans recognized for their service included Butler County Assistant Prosecutor Jason Phillabaum and Amanda Hundley of Hamilton.
