Still one of the best news blogs in the state
This blog is a finalist for the Associated Press Society of Ohio’s annual Best Blog award.
The full list of finalists, named last month, are:
- Josh Sweigart, Butler County News and Issues
- Jessica Heffner (Middletown Journal), Here’s the Deal: Bargains in Hamilton and Middletown
- Rona Proudfoot (The (Elyria) Chronicle Telegram), Lorain International Fest Blog
This blog won third place in this category last year.
I am also a finalist in the “Best Investigative Reporting” category. Here’s the full list of finalists:
- Amanda Dolasinski (The (Lorain) Morning Journal), “Cell Phones”
- Josh Sweigart, “County Jail Work Under Scrutiny”
- Shawn Foucher (Sandusky Register) “Expensive Hill of Beans”
- Valerie Lough (Springfield News-Sun) “The North - South Divide.”
You can see the full list of finalists for Division III (for newspapers with a circulation between 13,000 and 24,999) at our sister paper the Springfield News-Sun. The list includes several fellow reporters and photographers here who I’m honored to work with.
The awards in actual order of finish — first, second and third places and honorable mentions — will be announced at the annual APSO annual convention May 2 in Columbus. The General Excellence, First Amendment and Special Recognition winners also will be announced at the meeting.
Sixty-five daily newspapers submitted 2,794 entries in the contest, which featured news and sports stories, features, editorials, columns, graphics and photos from 2009.

I am surprised you didn’t get an award for kissing up to Mike Fox or taking it so easy on the Sheriff Jones’ questionable activities. Congratulations anyway!!!

I agree with JMB, there seems to be some love affair with the HJN and Rick Jones.

You guys forgot the upbeat news coverage that the Journal always gives our Playboy Commissioner Don Dixon. The Journal has turned into a PR Machine for these guys. Witness them not allowing comments on the $100,000 Jones payout and offering no comments on the payout from the commissioners.
