Sheriff backs Carpenter in commission race

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones, one of the county’s most well-known elected officials, recently sent out a letter throwing his support behind county Clerk of Courts Cindy Carpenter in her bid for county commission.

Here is the letter:

Sheriff Carpenter

I checked with Jones, and he indeed sent out this letter as an endorsement of Carpenter.

In the same race, I recently ran into Bob Weber, who said unequivocally that he was not running for county commission. Treasurer Nancy Nix recently announced the same.

So far, only Carpenter, former West Chester Twp. Trustee Jose Alvarez and former Middletown City Councilman Paul Nenni have filed their petitions. The others who have pulled petitions are:

  • Richard (Wes) Retherford
  • Jesse Vonstein
  • Gregory V. Jolivette (the incumbent commissioner)

Josh Sweigart, Seriously, why don’t you do some investigative reporting instead of just typing whatever an elected official shoves down your throat. In other words…..Grow a pair!

Was this letter approved by Don Dixon?

Why is the letterhead missing? Let me guess it would constitute the misuse of county property. I also couldnt help but notice that this campaign material did not note who was paying for the cost associated with it.

The Sheriff personally can endorse a political candidate, the Office of the Sheriff cannot.

about 2 hours ago the Journal removed a post that said the Sheriff employs Cindy Carpenter’s son, now its removed…..Is this true? If so, why would the Journal remove the post? I read it and there wasn’t anything derogatory about it. Sounds to me like the Journal itself is a supporter of Jones/Carpenter. Evidently this isn’t a real newspaper, just a GOP blog.

Why do posts that refer to Sheriff Jones employing Cindy Carpenter’s son keep getting removed? If anyone reads this before it gets removed…ITS TRUE!!!…..I am currently on the phone cancelling my Journal subscription because this is obviously not a newspaper, its MySpace for Republicans…..

Sorry Rick, but taking sides and using your office to do so is a sham. Stop trying to fool the Tea Parties with your presence at meetings and words of deceit.

Sheriff Jones employs one of Cindy Carpenter’s kids, this is a fact. Keep deleting this post Journal news(if this one is deleted it will make 4), I’ll keep posting it. Due to the rampant nepotism in this County I’ve been laid off FROM the County so I have all day…..

these folks always trade jobs for friends and family. who is on or has been on carpenters payroll that has ties going the other way; since carpenters son works for sheriff.

A Republican supporting another Republican. The only thing that would make this story newsworthy was if ol Jonesy wrote the letter in spanish.

Folks you might as well learn, the Journal News will not stand for anyone to say anything negative about their friend the sheriff. They’ve deleted more than three postings on this topic. You will also notice that when a negative story goes up about the Sheriff they don’t allow any comments.

Carpenter? Why would anyone support her when she’s giving speeches using poor Marcus Fiesel and “maybe he’d still be alive” comments. Let the boy rest in peace! Don’t use his death as a means for political campaigning!

You all have nothing better to do? As far as Jones employing one of her kids, who cares? If you filled out an application and had the qualifications to fill a job, maybe the sheriff would hire you too. Not nepotism, someone who is a key player in the sheriff’s daily operation. If you were a valued employee you probably wouldn’t have been laid off. People can stand on their own without special treatment, maybe you couldn’t. It’s about who can do the best job. As far as the Marcus Feisel comment, I would support her because she wants to prevent things like that from happening again. Let’s not sweep him under the rug, if we talk about it and find solutions maybe we can stop another tragedy. You can let him rest in peace while Cindy finds ways to protect other kids. Get real!

No, Cindy Carpenter is claiming that if her online court records had been available to the caseworker, maybe Marcus would still be alive today. Her court records already existed and the caseworker would have found ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on the foster parents to suggest they would do what they did. Poor taste in my opinion for her to bring him up!

Hey “Above the Dirt” When I see a duck, I call it a duck. When an elected official supports another elected offical’s campaign for the highest office in this county (the office that controls his budget none the less)and just so happens to employ her son, I call it nepotism….what do you call it?

I must have hit a nerve. First off, what does Mike Fox have to do with anything. Nothing, it doesn’t matter who he supports. We live in a democracy, people have a right to support whomever they want. Next are we going to move onto guilt by association? And as far as the Marcus Feisel statement, I am sure you have all the information you need, right? I have only met Cindy a few times but know that she has a child with autism. Maybe it’s personal for her and maybe you shouldn’t throw comments around until you have all the information. What you think is sleazy, I bet other people who know kids in foster care find reassuring. How do people learn without addressing what went wrong? As far as your anger that her kid works for the sheriff, have you seen his resume?? Do you have personal knowledge that he was only hired because of who he was. Or, could it possibly be he was hired because he knows what he is doing and is an asset to this county. You can’t hire someone without the experience needed to do a job, regardless of who they are. Are you saying that even if you are qualified for a job, you should not be hired because you have a famiy member that works in government too?? That’s ridiculous! Is her son a new hire? Or has he been there a while and it really has nothing to do with her running for office? Give me a break.

I think “Above the Dirt” is the Clerk’s son that works for the Sheriff! He’s referred to this guy as an “asset to the county” more than once, sounds like he’s strokin his own ego…..must be a Carpenter.
