It’s official: Eaton businessman challenging Boehner
Press release from Manfred Schreyer for Congress (See previous post on this challenge - including lots of comments from readers - here):
Longtime Eaton-area resident and businessman, Manfred R. Schreyer, has formally announced his campaign bid for the Republican seat in this spring’s primary race for the 8th District of Ohio. This seat is presently held by longtime incumbent, John Boehner.
“The people of the 8th District of Ohio did not send John Boehner to D.C. to become the professional fundraiser for the rest of the Republican Party. We sent him there to represent the people of the 8th District,” says Manfred, “We all have friends who have lost their jobs and been forced to tighten their belt because of the economic crisis.”
Manfred believes that without a fundamental challenge to the guiding philosophy behind the leadership in the 8th District, Ohio will continue to suffer. He states, “Boehner has presented a conflict in his leadership. He made some early commitment to not bring any earmark investments back to our district from D.C. in protest of the political system.”
“But, in September of 2008, Mr. Boehner stood in solidarity with Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank by voting to bail out the bankers with our tax dollars, and then Boehner went further to publicly scold other conservatives who refused to go along with the scheme by saying ‘Now is not the time for ideological purity’,” states Manfred.
Manfred asks, “What is ideologically pure about Mr. Boehner telling other Republicans to agree with Pelosi by voting to give our tax dollars to the bankers, but then refusing to work to help bring jobs back to the people in his district?”
Schreyer states, “I realize that Mr. Boehner still enjoys some support in the GOP. However, the primary vote is when we define the direction of the party, and I believe that stubborn refusal to compromise with our neighbors has brought us to this era of extremist views. It might be working for West Chester, but it’s not working out very well for the rest of the 8th District.”
Manfred’s campaign committee is being finalized and he has launched a campaign website at http://www.imwithmanfred.com.

Boehner will win. He’s the only one standing up to the left wing bullies right now.

While lobbyists fly Mr. Boehner around the country to play in golf outings, Ohioans have had 13 straight years of rising unemployment. When is Mr. Boehner going to stand up for his constituents? Any change will be welcome.

Anyone but Boehner. He’s done nothing for SW Ohio since the 80’s as a West Chester trustee. Fairly worthless at getting anything accomplished for his constituents.

greatly concern, Boehner is our Rep in Congress, he has nothing to do with State policys. SO lets ditch to our State Reps and State Senator on getting Jobs here in Ohio. They have the power for that way beter then John B does. Without them getting off thier rears JB can’t do much. They make the OHIO laws, JB makes Federal laws. I don’t see this guy being voted in to office , he sounds to DEM Liberla to me.

Boehner, Does absolutely nothing for his district or the state on the Federal Level. His two district offices are poorly run and are of no help to the constituents. But the same people in his district who are always complaining about government, ie. vets and senior citizens, keeping voting him back into office. If the vast majority of citizens of the 8th District of Ohio would use their heads they would vote him out of office and elect a more grounded representative.

John Boehner was a wonderful asset for his constituents when there was an attempt to bring a Montgomery County landfill to the Preble/Montgomery County line in the 1990’s. Boehner helped stand up for Preble County residents who otherwise would not have had a voice. The wonderful thing about living in America is that this a democracy and everyone shall have their opportunity to vote. However, my vote will stay firm with Mr. Boehner.

When these federal bills with billions of dollars are being approved with earmarks for people all over the US, Boehner is a no show for bringing money back to Ohio. Earmarks are like 1% of the entire federal budget and we pay taxes regardless of where they go so we may as well get some funding for Ohio too. Boehner might be a better senator since he wants to only fight national issues.

Boehner has done a great job standing up to the Dems agenda but could help to push along a tax system overhaul by supporting the FairTax.

Preble, Darke, Montgomery, Mercer, and Miami County doesn’t have any voice in DC. Boehner is busy with $50,000 golf fundraisers. I think his voting record is pretty good in DC but he’s supposed to be representing the district’s interests and I just don’t see that. Who knows if this Schreyer guy is the right person but at least he’s standing up for the district.

The only thing I want to know about this guy is his stance on illegal immigration which affects everything else. Education, healthcare, jobs, social services etc. is all impacted negatively by illegal immigration. Take care of this issue and you solve many other problems.

I’m a life long democrat but no longer a supporter of the the party platform that includes billions of wasted tax dollars in earmarks (pork barrel spending). I really hope and pray for Mr. Schreyer loses in November as he stated in this article, he wants his slice of the pork and that is unacceptable.

Schreyer is out of touch with the people. We respect Boehner’s stance on pork, we want all Washington Pols to stop the pork. It is stupid to send our tax dollars to Washington so we can beg for them back. We want to keep our tax dollars here to begin with. Yes Boehner made the mistake when he held his nose and voted for TARP in 2008. Everyone was in a panic and did not know what to do. But remember it did not pass the house, it was then the Senate with McCain that porked the thing up and passed the bill. Boehner he will keep his seat and if we are lucky he will be the Speaker of the House.

Now is not the time to change our representation. We need experience and John and his staff have what Ohio needs right now. It would take at least 2 years for his challenger to learn how to work in Congress and Ohio cannot wait for a newbie to learn the ropes. We need help now — too bad we don’t have someone in the White House who knows what he is doing.

Candidate for Congress Manfred R. Schreyer on Fidel Castro and Cuba: “When Castro gained power, his ambition was to give back to the people what belonged to the people. He nationalized land holdings over 400 hectares. He cut rents and utility rates by nationalizing land, utilities and housing. The process directly affected the U.S., because Castro nationalized American petroleum companies, sugar plantations, etc. Many landowners, professionals, and wealthy Cubans left Cuba and settled in Florida, because of fear of communism. Castro’s policy was to give people back their country: That everyone would have access to health care, everyone would have a job with equal pay, that there would be gender and race equality and that people could enjoy social justice. Even in Castro’s foreign policy we can identify with his longing for equality and freedom for all.” -Manfred Schreyer. On what planet does a Rebublican Candidate for Congress, representing a primarily conservative district in Ohio ally himself with Castro and a repressive communist regime? For those who dislike Boehner and wish to unseat him, please, at least find a candidate with some level of patriotism and love for America. The disaster of the first 365 days of the Obama administration is proof that who a person is, who they hang out with and their ideology really does matter.

Boehner has been one of the very few that actually has stood up for “We The People”. He loves his country and the people here. He has alot of experience dealing with both parties and we need experience when we can get it. I will give him my vote happily.Who stayed back from recess when they all left before thier job was done? Boehner stood in Congress with lights out , alone, to answer the questions the people had and called Pelosi back to Congress everyday to finish her work. HE stayed here for us. He didn’t go on a golf outing when he was needed. He was the ONLY one that stayed demanding Congress to come back from thier vacations to get the job done.

If Boehner was in Congress after dark, he could probably be found handing out checks from the Tobacco lobbyists to fellow GOP Congressman. Why bother getting earmarks for your constituents, keep them for yourself! Google: tobacco lobby boehner and read about the real John Boehner.

Some of you need to go back to your high schools and slap your government teacher for not teaching you the role of a federal representative. It is not to bring you a job. The congress people that do that are the reason our federal government is so bloated and it costs all of us. Your beef is largely with the state and local governments

While not a fan of John Boehner, I will continue to support his efforts in the House. He has steadfastly held onto the Republican principals with his efforts and the efforts of the other Republican Congressmen in Washington. Without his efforts to block the healthcare initiative, we may well already have had a vote and a bill in place. This would have made Mr. Browns victory in MA this week worthless. My only beef with the Minority Speaker of the house is the poor way that he communicates to the folks in his district. On every occasions my telephone calls, emails and letters are only followed up by standard form letters and links to his web postings.

Anne - The exeirienced we keep putting into the White House are the same ones who have put our country into the toilet. We put them in term after term so they can make millions at our expense. Yes, we give them all the time they need to get wealthy while bankrupting America. We can create term limits ourselves and stop asking the government to do it for us and at the same time demand they stop doing it to us. WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT - LET’S STOP GRITCHING AND DO OUR JOB.

Isn’t it funny how these guys keep getting voted in, but when they get to the “big circle-jerk in DC”, they tend to forget the ones that put them there. They always end up with another agenda and that usually encompasses what suits them and their wallet. John Boehner talks to hear himself talk and is a big blow-hard who likes to make trouble instead of solve the problems. “Compromise” isn’t a word in his dictionary.

Manfred is a good guy. He’s easy to talk to and get to know. I had my doubts and then I went to meet him at his business. We talked and he is extremely intelligent and has a thinking head on his shoulders. The GOP has certainly done much worse in the past.
