Carpenter accuses Nix of ‘false statements’ in commission campaign
Butler County Clerk of Courts Cindy Carpenter says county Treasurer Nancy Nix crossed the line in her campaign for county commission.
Carpenter filed an Ohio Elections Commission complaint against Nix Friday, Nov. 13, claiming Nix violated campaign law by making speeches and distributing campaign literature with “false statements” about Carpenter.
Here is a copy of Carpenter’s complaint:

Analysis:
Specifically, Nix claimed that she had $101,000 in campaign funds —Â far more than the other candidates — and that unlike Carpenter she effectively reduced the county’s budget and possesses a “Business woman’s point of view.”
Carpenter’s sworn affidavit counters that Nix compared funds she currently has with campaign filing declarations by other candidates in July. Those reports listed Nix as having $12,714 on hand and Carpenter having $8,513.
As for Nix’s other claims, Carpenter said she reduced her office’s budget $152,285 from 2007 to the draft 2010 budget; and that she has worked in business all her life.
“I grew up over a family business. I live in a family business now,” Carpenter said, referring to Barker Ornaments, which her husband runs from their home. “I think Nancy knows that.”
Carpenter called Nix’s claims “intolerable.”
“This is not okay to do, to operate this way in Butler County,” Carpenter said. “Any time you lie to the public, you print a lie in a campaign, that is a violation of Ohio law.”
“My intent was to accurately portray my qualifications against my opponent,” Nix said. “I haven’t seen the complaint, and I guess I’ll have to take a look at it and go from there.”
Nix made the comments in campaign literature and a speech to Butler County Republican Party members leading up to a vote for the party’s endorsement for county commission on Nov. 5. Nix got the most votes, but not enough for an endorsement.
Nix and Carpenter are only two candidates in the Republican primary. Others include incumbent Commissioner Gregory Jolivette —Â seen as vulnerable within his party because of an ongoing Ethics Commission investigation —Â and former West Chester Twp. Trustee Jose Alvarez.
Carpenter said she hopes for a cleaner race leading up to the May primary, absent of “playing dirty and dishonest and start trying to discredit people and ruin their reputations.”

I guess gender doesn’t matter in being ‘nasty’ in politics but what can you expect for Nix who is only 2 years into her first term as County Treasurer. What a disappointment! I had high hopes for new fresh office holders with better integrity but I will have to wait a little longer. Maybe Jolivette still has a chance if the ‘cat’ fights continue.
By Nix means no

I’ll calling for a gop CAGE MATCH between these two, no rules. Last one standing wins. WE can sell tickets to Tori’s Station, it would be a sellout.

These dollar amounts discussed in this complaint are trivial. Just wait till Jose shows us how much loot West Chester developers and lobbyist can pony up. They didn’t earn all that cash just for county introductions !

Carpenter is a low-rent hillbilly who got a big taste of sour grapes. Wah. Everyone just wants to see two women in a mud ring. Carpenter fits that bill perfectly; Nix does not. This county has bigger problems than giving a moment’s thought to Cindy Carpenter’s bruised ego. Can we please move on?

Oh please!!! This is not a cat fight…the only “cattiness” I see is on Carpenters part. Bottom line maybe Cindy doesn’t like the fact that Nancy was top vote getter. Nancy was just stating her qualifications. Think you’re allowed to do that. Nancy is by far more than qualified for the job. Nancy has too much class and honesty to have to put up with something like this.

If we put either of these candidates in the Commissioner’s seat, we are not changing anything in Butler County politics. If the politics of any County in the nation need changing, it is Butler County. Ethics violations, conflicts of interest, public corruption, influence peddling, perjury, tax evasion, mail fraud…Let’s start over with some fresh faces.

The county commission is the logical next step for Sheriff Rick Jones. Being commissioner would better position him to run for congress or for governor. If the sheriff were to run that would also clear the field of these want a be candidates. Come on Rick, save the party and the county from this nonsense primary.

The only reason Cindy Carpenter is even an elected official in this county is due to none other than Michael A. Fox. Cindy Carpenter-Michael A. Fox, Michael A. Fox-Cindy Carpenter. That affliation alone ought to answer the question of: Is Cindy Carpenter qualified to be a County Commissioner?

“Affiliation”??? Aren’t you streching the “guilt by affilation”? Everyone with any involvement is “affiliated” with everyone else somehow. People are no longer accountable for their owwn behavior if you play the “affiliation” game. … Bad for society.

“guilt by affiliation” is your term. The character of those whom politicians choose to affiliate with says a great deal about their own. Self accountability is possible within all poiliticians, the choice to do so is solely their own.
