Jolivette promotes ‘Buying in Butler’

Before people rush to shop at the new outlet mall in Warren County, Butler County Commissioner Gregory Jolivette wants them to think about the impact their purchase could have on local jobs and social services.

He wants local chambers of commerce to consider a “Buying in Butler” campaign to educate people that jobs and social services depend on where people shop.

“In these tough economic times, with our sales tax being the number one revenue source, we need to do everything we can to promote buying in Butler,” Jolivette said.

Sales tax revenues are down nearly 10 percent in the ongoing recession, forcing the county to explore cutting staff and services.

“Buying in Butler does two major things: retains jobs and helps maintain county services that our citizens expect and deserve,” Jolivette wrote in a letter asking local chamber leaders to meet and discuss a potential promotional campaign.

We should also hold the County agencies to that same concept: purchase your goods and services locally from area businesses under a system that encourages competitive bidding. Comments on this from County officials is welcome!

Jolivette best proceed with caution. Most of the folks in Monroe live in Butler County and many do vote. His comments just might irritate thos arrogant, upity, little people. Just look at how they continually look down on us lowly, skum who happen to live in Middletown!

Before Jolivette starts a big campaign to promote buying in the county, we challenge him to produce the last 6 months of his credit card bills showing where he and his family have been shopping, dining, or entertaining…then I might listen to his jabber.

As a life-time resident of Butler county, I think the buying in Butler plan is a great idea..But there’s a major flaw..Tell us other than the discount stores and grocery stores..where exactly are we supposed to shop..I think instead of making a plan without any end results, Mr Jolivette should have proposed a few stores in Butler County first..

Jolly, I run right down to Elder Beerman and spend some money tonight. Thre is no place to job in Hamilton, high taxes and parking meters have run everyone out of the city. Look at all the malls and shopping center just over the countyline, why don’t any of them move to Butler County, look in the mirror Jolly.

Another vivid example , of how much Commissioner Jolivette is out of touch , with reality . He passes resolution to hire his family members….and then plays dumb ,about what he did . Now….he wants us to shop in Butler county at ” Mom & Pop ” retail stores with little or no selection , since the county and the city of Hamilton . Have run any ” high profile ” nationally known , retail business’s , out of the city and the county . That’s why Bridge water Falls , the new outlet mall in Monroe , and Tri-county mall . Have all been largely successful ventures . But….I’m sure , if you want to buy a ” hot dog and a root beer ” . He knows just where you can get them at….also…..!
