County commission race could broaden

Following the announcement last week by county Treasurer Nancy Nix that she intended to make a run to unseat Commissioner Gregory Jolivette next year, we’ve been watching the Board of Elections closely.

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, a woman named Stacy Carpenter pulled a petition for “anonymous” for the 2010 Republican primary for Jolivette’s seat, according to BOE records.

When asked about the petition, Clerk of Courts Cindy Carpenter said Stacy Carpenter (no relation to the local office holder, Cindy said) was an employee in her office. I’ve since learned Stacy Carpenter is Cindy Carpenter’s executive assistant.

When asked about the purpose of the petition, Cindy Carpenter responded this way: “At this point, I am not making any announcements. I am talking with people within the (Republican) party.”

Cindy Carpenter said recent news regarding Commissioner Gregory Jolivette (read that here and here) and swirling allegations emanating from the federal trial of former Dynus Corp. owner Orlando Carter have ruffled some local feathers.

“Some of the office holders and department heads are dissatisfied with the current operation of county government,” Cindy Carpenter said. “Some of these people are not happy with the scandals that have occurred. It is very disheartening.

“There are many of us that believe that some things need to be done differently.”

We’re continuing to hear about folks who may run for the seat. It seems the list is growing with each passing day.

The question also remains about how the Republican Party would treat the screening process and endorsement meetings (in mid- to late-September and mid- to late-October, respectively) should Nix, Carpenter and the incumbent Jolivette decide to run.

Off the three mentioned in this post, Carpenter by far is the best candidate. Jolivette is done, most likely resigning to keep from going to jail, and Nix is just running to be more visible. Carpenter has shown she knows how to run government cut cost but not cut services and harm people.

Carpenter and Nix are paper pushers with not an ounce worth of business experience needed to run a county government. When Carpenter claims she’s talking with GOP “leaders”, just remember who backed the very clowns that are now in trouble: (Owens, Ellis, etc)

Don’t forget who was Carpenter’s political mentor - Mike Fox.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh my! Cindy Carpenter running !?! If you thought Kay Rogers was a loon, Cindy is the queen loon. Stories about her making her employees go into rooms over “disputes” and making them stay till they almost pee themselves is legendary. Neither Carpenter, Nix, Chris Matacic, Pat Hiltman, or Jose Alvarez are qualifed or smart enough to be commissioners.

Back at ya “sayitaintso” It would be wonderful if all those you mentioned actually ran. At the end of a primary, no one would be left standing after attacking each. Wasn’t Jose a WC trustee during the Dynus time frame? As for Chris and Pat, they have the experience of running Mayberry.

To sayitaintso, Cindy Carpenter is no loon. She is a smart, well organized and wonderful person. Her office is a well oiled machine that saves taxpayers money. She will make a great commissioner and is the most qualified for the job. I bet sayitaintso is a Kay Rogers fan. When is she going to jail?

Are you kidding me! I don’t live in Butler County and I would join the campaign to get her kicked out of Clerk O’ Courts much less Commissioners office.

Maybe the taxpayers will get lucky and some very qualified independents will run for offices. I’m sick of the Rs and the Ds.

Out of all the canidates mentioned it seems to me that Ms. Carpenter is the only one who has sucessfully ran a campaign. How long has she been in office? 1996, she must be doing something right.
