Sheriff to close county jails? This date?

UPDATE: Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones closed the county’s minimum security Resolutions jail Thursday evening, June 4, and moved roughly 200 inmates to the county jail on Court Street in Hamilton.

The move took place shortly after 7:30 p.m. and caused the opening of the formerly closed Court Street jail, according to sheriff’s deputies.

The sheriff gave no reason for closing Resolutions, and deputies and dispatchers would only say a release would be available Friday morning, June 5.

The lights were still on at the Resolutions jail on Second Street in Hamilton Thursday night, and a sign on the door stated that visitations were canceled Thursday.

The only announcement from the sheriff Thursday came via the Web site Twitter, where he posted, “I will be closing two of Butler County’s jails this date. Sheriff Jones.”

Original post:

This mysterious tweet just popped up on Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones’ Twitter account:

I will be closing 2 of butler county’s jails this date. Sheriff jones

I have no idea what this means and why the sheriff posted it at 11 p.m. Is he planning on closing county jails?

Let’s see, the sheriff is on the front page of the Hamilton Journal News, the Cincinnati Enquirer, was covered this morning on all four local TV stations and is mentioned a least twice an hour on every radio station in the tri-state. What is he up to? Getting that precious PR for his congressional campaign.

Some people are quick to judge-any thing to take a shot at the sheriff— he has demonstrated his profession alsim and made very good decisions for residence of Butler County. I believe he will do the same in any elected position.

Without someone like Richard Jone this town would go downhill. I feel more safe than i did before he was elected. I know one thing he has more on his side than you think. Keep up the great work Richard Jones were pulling for you to clean this town up.

One more thing . Only the people breaking the law are the ones hating him. They are not important to me. I will stand by Richard Jones He know the Law and upholds it at the same time

As long as closing the jails doen’t put our citizens in jeopardy I’m for it! It seems to be a fiscally sound idea. With the budget cuts needed to survive in this city it is reasonanle. Hope this isn’t PR

If you big supporters would remove your rose colored glasses then you’d see the sheriff for what he really is. Backstabber to his friends, coniving, and can’t even support his own party without causing havik. Like he once said in HIS article, he’d prefer a dictatorship. Wake up people…before it is too late!!
