You’re reading one of the best news blogs in the state

The results are in, and the Ohio Associated Press has named this blog the third best in the state for newspapers this size.

The awards were handed out yesterday. I also received first place in Best News Writing and first in Best Investigative Reporting. And I walked away with third place in Best Enterprise Reporting.

Former co-blogger Dave Greber scored first place in Best Online Photojournalist, and Middletown sports reporter Skip Weaver took first in Best Sports Enterprise Reporting.

Here is the story in today’s Hamilton paper, and here is the story in today’s Middletown paper.

From Hamilton:

The JournalNews won several awards, including three for first place, in the Associated Press Society of Ohio’s annual contest, it was announced Sunday, May 3.

Butler County writer Josh Sweigart took first place awards for both Best News Writer and Best Investigative Reporting, while Dave Greber won the top award for Best Online Photojournalist.

The award for Investigative Reporting came from a package of articles Sweigart wrote regarding Butler County’s hiring practices.

Overall, the JournalNews won seven awards. Staff photographer Nick Daggy earned a second place award for Best Photographer.

Sweigart also won third place awards for Best Blogger and Best Enterprise Reporting. Former staff writer Joshua Rinaldi also earned an honorable mention award for Best Enterprise Reporting.

Members of AP include 88 daily newspapers in Ohio. Sixty-six daily newspapers submitted 2,908 entries in the contest, which featured news and sports stories, features, editorials, columns, graphics and photos from 2008.

The JournalNews competed in the Division III category, which includes daily newspapers with circulations between 13,000 and 24,999. Entries in that division were judged by the Rome (Ga.) News-Tribune.

It’s interesting to see this point of view. I can’t say fore sure if I agree or not, but it is something I will think about now.
