Boehner on video: Concerns about carbon dioxide ‘almost comical’

On This Week with George Stephanopoulos, U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-West Chester Twp., issued the following assessment of climate change:

“The idea that carbon dioxide is a carcinogen that is harmful to our environment is almost comical. Every time we exhale, we exhale carbon dioxide. Every cow in the world, when they do what they do, you’ve got more carbon dioxide.”

When pressed by Stephanopoulos on the Republican plan to deal with climate change:

“It’s clear we’ve had change in our climate, the question is how much does man have to do with it, and what is the proper way to deal with it.”

How much longer does Butler County have to the laughingstock of the nation? Every time this person opens his mouth, something truly embarrassing comes out. If a Democrat had said something so stupid the wise voters of Butler County would be sharpening their pitchforks and lighting their torches. I guess Boehner just blends in.

I can’t view the video, but I’m behind Boehner: “global warming” is nonsense at best and an outright hoax at worst. There’ve been times in the past when there’s been 15 TIMES today’s current levels of atmospheric CO2, with no discernable effects. I saw an interview with a REAL climatologist the other day (not a phoney like Al Gore) who pointed out that the greenhouse effects of CO2 are logarithmic: the more you add to the atmosphere, the less extra effect it has. And we’re already well above the level where extra CO2 in the atmosphere does anything more toward greenhouse effects. The climate is ALWAYS changing, and always will, and it’s got nothing to do with human activites. It’s just the weather. Mother Nature puts vastly more CO2 into the air than the human race does, and “Cap and Trade” will accomplish NOTHING except drive up the price of everything you buy. $4/gallon gasoline was bad enough; do you want to shoot for $10/gallon?

Mignerey – One needs to look no further than the many thoughts you’ve shared to discover how challenged some of this county’s residents can be in expressing their own. Look, Boehner clearly flubs in better expressing the many risks and perils that Obama’s plans bring because he’s being pressed. But, you do not have that defense for the manner in which you freely share yours. Besides, we all know that anything said by Boehner and/or his peers is viewed by you with extreme prejudice. Perhaps, instead of attacking, you should take a moment to look past the delivery to consider what he is really trying to share as you’re comments are afforded the same.

“take a moment to look past the delivery to consider what he is really trying to share”(Boehner has Company) Maybe Mr. Boehner would be startled to learn that the United States Environmental Protection Agency had this to say on the subject: “When IN BALANCE, the total carbon dioxide emissions and removals from the entire carbon cycle are roughly equal. Since the Industrial Revolution in the 1700’s, HUMAN ACTIVITIES, such as the burning of oil, coal and gas, and deforestation, HAVE INCREASED CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere. In 2005, global atmospheric concentrations of CO2 were 35% HIGHER than they were before the Industrial Revolution.” Weird the things you can learn when you actually look for the answer.See the problem isn’t that Mr. Boehner flubs a lot under pressure. The problem is that he , and it seems “Boehner has Company”, refuse to use the resources available to actually learn about “the many risks and perils” that President Obama has to face to save this country from people like Boehner, who it would seem just don’t give a damn. “extreme prejudice”??? Just what is prejudicial about pointing out a fool when one sticks it’s head in front of a TV camera? It seems to me that those who are really prejudicial are those to refuse to acknowledge that what Mr. Boehner “is really trying to share” is dangerously unsound science and same ridiculous rantings which have driven our nation to the brink of financial ruin. But as you say “Boehner has Company”. I sure wouldn’t want to be associated with him.

Two points in response to Savanation’s comments: First, you mock Rep. Boehner’s off-the-cuff speaking style. Have you ever heard Pres. Obama speak without a teleprompter? “Porky Pig meets Forrest Gump” and “One-Man Gaffe Machine” are the descriptions I’ve heard. Without a script, Obama makes George Bush sound like Daniel Webster. That’s why on his recent trip to Europe he took something like 14 teleprompters with him, and even uses them in press conferences. Rep. Boehner had no such crutch and was giving honest unrehearsed answers. Second, you cite reports by the EPA warning of the dangers of CO2. Anything the EPA says about “global warming” has to be considered suspect. They’ve got a vested interest in perpetuating this fraud. Their jobs and funding depend on it. Not to mention that the EPA is the sort of outfit to which left-wing eco-chondriacs gravitate. The EPA’s staff is largely made up of people who likely believe the Global Warming Gospel of Al Gore with a holy zeal and will plug their ears and go “LALALALA!” if someone cites facts to the contrary. Like the fact that the planet’s actually been COOLING for 10 years even with no reductions in CO2 emissions.

Savanation - Googling the issue, then cutting and pasting content that you find hardly defines your critical thinking skills let alone any belief that you actually possess advanced, formal knowledge on the subject. But, there you go again ranting and raving as if you’re the final word on yet another issue that you likely know little about, including your predictable attacks on those who may disagree. Thankfully, elected officials on both sides of the isle and the learned professionals with whom they confer are entrusted with crafting a reasonable solution for us all versus an old man who apparently has trouble even understanding the impact of his own prejudice. And, again, the “Boehner has Company” name refers to you.

Clearly the man is an idiot. Our own government’s scientists say that global warming is threatening the planet! Perhaps he can’t read.

“Boehner has Company” please refer to the column currently listed on the main opinion page by Daniel Gladish. If you had read this column and understood it, you would not have made such silly comments. Of course the operative word being “understood”. Good luck. If you need any help on the big words, let me know. I wouldn’t advise asking Mr. Boehner to help you.

Savanation – Pointing others to the Opinion Page should alert you to what that commentary really is, Opinion - including everything you share Mignerey. And, please, if anyone’s comprehension skills are in question, it would be yours as you’ll find no disagreement about climate change in previous comments, only concern over the outcomes of Obama’s proposals. Plus, let’s not forget that the original post was really about your discourse, the prejudices that shape it, and your inability to thoughtfully let others comment without attack. The more you write, the more you confirm it.

So, the answer seems to be - You didn’t understand it. Of course that’s just my opinion.
