Children Services applicants - correction

In this post (and subsequent story), I said that no elected officials had applied for the job of Butler County Children Services director.

My apologies; I was wrong.

I forgot that Jerome Kearns, assistant director of Butler County Job and Family Services, is also Fairfield City Schools Board of Education president.

So there is indeed an elected official in the running for the job.

This follows the recent trend: the last time the job came open, it was filled by then-county commissioner Michael Fox. And a front-runner for the Emergency Management Agency director post is Middletown City Councilman Bill Becker.

Good Old Boy Butler County Politics, Don Dixon is building his own political machine. You can rest assured that both Becker and Kearns will get these jobs. The real problem is that neither of these fellows should be even considered for the job based on the qualifications that are needed.

Commissioner Jolivette or Furmon should appoint their wives to these positions. If it’s OK for Don Dixon’s fiancee to run a county department, why wouldn’t it be alright for their wives to do the same. Everyone had a problem with a county official hiring a grandchild and a ex-son-in-law but there’s on problem with a live-in girl friend and thus a wife holding a high paying county position with her hubby in control of her employment.
